Today was Valentines Day, one of the busiest days for the Pizzaplex and especially the Daycare for a several reasons; many teens bring their crushes to the Pizzaplex for little dates but are forced to bring their younger siblings with, Parents who want a date night but can't afford the astronomical babysitting fee of the other lonely local teens so they come to the plex for the Daycare, people who want the exclusive Valentines merchandise, and so on. Earlier in the day, during your shift, Sun had come up to you at the security desk during a rare lull in bustling activity from the wealth of kids currently in the daycare during some free play.
Sun was evidently nervous, though his face couldn't move, his mannerisms spoke a thousand words his face couldn't. He was nervously fidgeting with the bells on one of his wrists, hesitating for only a moment before finally speaking up, tone full of reserved excitement, "Hey Star.. uh, I was wondering if you'd stay after hours today?" An awkward pause as you raised a brow before Sun stuttered out, "I- If you don't already have plans or anything! It's totally okay if you can't, actually, just- just forget it, it's stupid-" Sun shifted his hand that was fidgeting with the bell to one of his lower rays and tugging, which is a terrible anxious habit of his which you quickly desire to redirect.
You quickly lift your hand to his forearm attached to the hand tugging at his ray, your expression softening before you spoke in a soft, fond tone and rubbed small circles on his casing with your thumb, "I wouldn't mind staying late tonight Sunny, and don't worry, I don't have any plans tonight.. Unless you call going home and watching romcoms while stuffing my face with popcorn plans."
Sun quickly relaxed, releasing his ray from his grasp, a soft chuckle falling from him as you let your hand fall away from his forearm as it fell to his side. Sun made a sound akin to clearing his throat though he evidently lacked one, his fans spinning a little louder than normal as he spoke, "Ah, well, as fun as those plans sound.. I think what I have planned tonight might be a bit more fun than terrible romcoms and popcorn."
You hum softly and raise an eyebrow once again, your tone shifting into something a bit more playful, "Oh? And, pray tell, what does the lovely Mr. Sun have planned for tonight, hm~?"
Sun chuckled, rolling his optics though you could barely tell due to the milky white color of them before he reached out and gently poked your cheek, coaxing a faux pout to your lips, "Ah ah~ You'll just have to wait and see.. Call it a special valentines surprise."
The faux pout disappears as you playfully bat Sun's hand away, rolling your eyes in that same playful manner before huffing softly with a smile teasing your lips, "Alright alright, I guess I'll be patient.. Wouldn't wanna ruin the surprise I suppose."
After a thankfully uneventful shift, only having to deal with a couple toddler tantrums and one particularly annoyed parent before closing time. The daycare was empty now, excluding you and Sun of course. You were helping Sun pick up the mess left behind by the kiddos before you felt a tap on your shoulder, turning to see Sun standing behind you. You smiled at him, quickly setting your armful of stuffed toys into the bin before dusting off your shirt and turning fully towards him, "Yeah? You need something Sunny?"
Sun hums, leaning in just a little closer to give your nose a playful little poke as he spoke in a lower voice, "That's the spirit~!" He then leans back, putting his hands on his hips with a little bit of flair, "Now, I assume you need to get back to handling those pesky parent emails, I'll let you get back to it. See you later Starlight~" With that, Sun turned and went back to the kids, leaving you to go back to the emails from parents and staff that had undoubtedly piled up in your inbox.
Sun cleared his non-existent throat, once again lightly fidgeting with the bells on his wrist, "Yeah. I still need to.. set up my surprise so.. if you'd be so kind as to do a small lap to the employee locker rooms and back it'd be much appreciated."
You huffed softly, expression fond as you shrugged, "Eh, sure. I need to go there anyway to get my stuff so it makes sense.. See you in like ten minutes?"
Sun nods his head eagerly, gently shoving you towards the door in his eagerness for this surprise of his, "Yes, yes, see you in ten. Ta ta for now Starlight~!"
You stumble a bit as Sun shoves you the last couple inches out of the door before shutting the large wooden doors behind you. You roll your eyes fondly, shoving your hands in your pockets as you began your stroll through the plex to the employee locker rooms. You admired the neon lights of the plex as you walked along the now empty paths through the plex.
This isn't your first time staying after hours, first it was Moon wanting to walk you to the front doors so you stayed a bit later to humor the lunar bot, then it was Sun who wanted to show you a new trick he had learned from one of the kids, then it was both of them wanting to gift you random nick knacks they had found around the daycare and plex. Those two have always been so sweet to you, sure there were a few bumps at the beginning of your employment but you, Sun and Moon have grown to be great friends, though your heart quietly ached for more. You ket these feelings to yourself though, not wanting to ruin what you had with either bot. You finally reach the locker rooms, quickly gathering your belongings before beginning your trek back to the daycare.
It didn't take too much longer for you to return to the daycare though there was a notable absence of Sun's bells jingling and indicating his presence. You peered in through the side window to see an empty daycare. Odd but not completely out of place. You push open the large wooden doors and step into the daycare. After waiting for a moment in relative silence excluding the jaunty tune echoing throughout the daycare, you decide to walk further into the daycare while calling out for Sun to try and find him, "Sun? Sunny, I'm back! Where are you?"
You nearly jump out of your skin when you suddenly feel a large hand on your shoulder, causing you to whip around with a small gasp and be met with Sun's placid smile. A bot that big with like four very jingly bells should not be that silent. You sigh out the air you had gasped as Sun titters nervously, his other hand hidden behind his back as he speaks in a soft voice, "Ah, sorry for the scare Sunshine, I just had to finish up my surprise for you.."
You take a quick breath to steady your uneven heartbeat before smiling up at Sun, "May I know what this surprise is now?"
Sun shakes his faceplate side to side before leaning a little closer to poke your cheek again, tone playful but a bit shaky as if he was nervous, "Impaitient as ever Starlight. You'll see. Now, put this on. It's part of your surprise." Sun pulls his hand from behind his back to reveal.. a bow tie? You laugh softly, pausing for a moment to look up at Sun incredulously before gingerly taking the bow tie, undoing the velcro and fastening it around your neck. It was a little tight around your neck but not unbearably so.
Once you had the bow tie secured, you realized Sun had his own bow tie, his being made of paper and presumably glued to the top most button on his chest. You let out a soft laugh, and Sun presumably sees where your eyes are and what caused your giggles, causing him to cross his arms, tone now a playfully petulant pout, "What? I can't take my neck ruff off without help and this was the next best thing."
You giggle again, gently poking the paper bow tie that peaks from Sun's arms as you speak in a playful tone, "Hey, I'm not judging. It's cute and creative, like you." The words slip from your lips before you even realize what you said. You only realize what you said when Sun goes rigid, your heart leaping into your throat before you lightly scramble, "Ah sh- sorry, I meant like- I- Uh-"
Sun puts both his hands on your shoulders, grounding you from your moment of panic. Your eyes flit between the floor and Sun's milky optics, before Sun lifts one of his hands and cups your face to make you meet his gaze, his voice impossibly soft and fond, "Hey hey, It's alright Sunshine, no harm done." Sun's touch lingers for a moment more before leaning back slightly and adding in a slightly more playful tone, "Are you ready for your surprise now?"
You let out a soft breath you hadn't known you were holding when Sun held your face so gently, nodding your head. Before you could even speak, Sun is scooping you up as the aerial wire lowers from the ceiling. Sun quickly maneuvers to and lands on his tower balcony, setting you down carefully before shuffling over to the closed velveteen curtains. He hesitates for only a moment before pulling one of the curtains aside and gesturing for you to step inside. You glance at Sun for a moment before shuffling inside and having your breath taken away by the scene before you.
The whole room is covered in fairy lights, bright enough for Sun to stay out but dimmer and more intimate than the overhead lights in the daycare. On the main floor, in the center of the room and next to the child play house they have, is a kiddie sized table with a sheet draped over it. The table has a couple of chairs and on top there are two paper plates, two plastic cups and in the center lay two craft roses; a pipe cleaner rose with glittery petals and an origami rose made from some kind of patterned paper.
You're knocked from your trance when you hear the curtain shift behind you, making you glance back and see a very nervous looking Sun next to the curtains, him wringing his hands together nervously, his voice impossibly soft and still shaky with evident nerves, "…Surprise." then in an even softer and quieter voice, one you didn't even know the sun themed bot was capable of making, "D- Do.. Do you like it?"
Your wowed expression softened, a small smile shaping your lips as you nodded your head and matched Sun's softer tone with one of your own, "I love it Sunny, it's wonderful.. Thank you."
You swore you heard Sun's fans whirring loudly before he tried to cover it up with a faux cough and dramatically gestures towards the table, speaking in that bright tone of his, "A- Ah, well of course! Nothing less than perfect for my- I mean- The beloved Star! Now, shall we?" You giggle softly from Sun's theatrics as you nod and walk down the stairs and to the table with Sun close behind. As you reach for the chair, Sun quickly gives your hand a scolding tap and nudges it away before pulling out your chair himself. You roll your eyes in an endeared manner before you murmur a soft thank you to the sun bot as you took your seat in the little kid chair, your knees close to your chest as you slightly awkwardly scoot in a bit closer to the table.
Sun then reaches into the little playhouse before pulling out a bottle of Fizzy Faz and a pizza box. You stare at Sun with a perplexed expression as he carefully scoops up both craft roses then sets both the pizza box and Fizzy Faz bottle onto the table before taking his own seat across from you, his long legs making his knees go past his chest to his shoulders and making him look admittedly a little ridiculous. He leans forward a bit from between his legs and plucks the bottle of Fizzy Faz from the table, opens it and pours some of the orange liquid into your respective cup. The silence between the two of you isn't awkward per say, just… heavier. More present than any other old silence. You and Sun often go back and forth; each of you teasing, joking and just chatting with each other. Sunny always had something to say so silences like these were rare but not unwelcome.
After another moment of the not so quiet silence with the soft fizz of the soda in your cup and the continuous jaunty tune in the daycare now muffled, Sun breaks it. He clears his non-existent throat again, gently fidgeting with the craft roses in his hands before holding them out to you as he spoke, tone holding a softness like he didn't want to shatter something precious with his full volume, "These.. These are for you. I made the pipe cleaner one and Moonie made the origami one.. Using his special star paper too.. so…" He faded off as you gently took the offered craft roses into your hands and began look over them.
You look at the one Sun made first, though it was clear it was made with significant care, pipe cleaners of different colors carefully folded into the delicate shape of a rose, even the pointed bits of pipe cleaner were carefully tucked away to avoid poking your palms. The petals were clearly carefully painted with red glitter glue, giving this project a clear touch that Sun had made it. Then you looked at the origami rose, clearly made with the same level of care that Sun had made with his. The petals were carefully folded with this pretty star patterned paper, the stars bright against the dark navy of the rest of the paper. Both roses were clearly made with so much care and thought that it made your chest ache.
You look back up at Sun and happen to catch him staring at you, placid smile not giving away his true emotions though his nervous hand wringing gives him away again. You smile softly, speaking in a tone that's just as soft, "These… These are beautiful.. Thank you, both of you."
You take the card with one hand, the other still interlocked with Sun's, and carefully open it. In the center of the heart shaped card lays a poem written in yellow and blue color pencil with small doodles of hearts and stars clearly done by Sun on the left side in the same yellow colored pencil along with glitter glue as well as some doodles done assumedly by Moon in the same blue colored pencil on the right with a few puff star stickers. Once you got done admiring the card itself, you finally read the poem in the center.
Sun's fans pick up their pace once again, a soft nervous laugh falling from his voice box as he glances to the side, wordlessly nodding his head shyly. He faux clears his throat again, flexing his hands as he hesitated to speak, which made your head tilt a bit out of curiosity. You'd almost think his voice box shorted out with how long he hesitates but then he speaks, soft and shy like he's been this whole time, "I'm.. We're glad you like them.. Although, we did want to bring you up here for a reason.. other than pizza and Fizzy Faz and roses made from craft materials… Something a bit more.. important." You tilt your head a little more, Sun's soft but serious tone making you a bit nervous yourself.
You nod your head, encouraging him to continue and continue he does. Sun gently reaches across the kiddie table to gently take one of your hands into his, giving it a soft squeeze before he continued speaking, "Sunshine, Moon and I have been wanting to say so many things to you ever since we met you.. But admittedly, if either of us said any of it out loud, we'd short circuit.. So we put them on a card." Sun then reaches into his pocket to pull out what looks to be a heart shaped card folded in half. He hesitates for only a second before offering you the card.
It read:
Sunshine, you light up our darkest days!
Starlight, you guide us like the north star.
Sunflower, without your guidance we'd be lost in the dark!
Starling, you've brought Sun and I closer than either of us thought possible.
Sunbeam, you've done nothing except make Moon and I's existance better.. make it worth something.
Starshine, you've been the best thing to ever happen to us.
So, we want to ask you something.
Would you do both of us the honor.. of being ours?
Would you be our guiding Starlight forever more?
As you read, your heart hammered against your chest, your face warmed, and tears pricked your eyes involuntarily. You were stunned, completely and totally.. God, was this a dream? If it was, you never wanted to wake up. When you finally glanced up again, tears were beginning to fall down your cheeks as the biggest, wobbliest smile crossed your face. You nodded your head emphatically, voice cracking as you spoke, "Y- Yes! Yes! A hundred, no- a thousand times yes!"
Sun nearly leapt over the table as you cried and spoke and grinned, scooping you into his arms from your chair and cackling with wild abandon as he spun you both around from sheer joy. You were sure if he had tear ducts, he'd be crying too. You joined in on the laughter, hugging him tight and kissing him anywhere you could reach between sobs and laughs. Sun did his best to return the affection, pressing his placid smile to your shoulders and cheeks, still cackling and twirling with abandon. Once the initial wave of absolute bliss faded into something just as giddy but calmer now, Sun just held you in his arms, carefully wiping the tears of joy from your cheeks, pressing his smile to your face every now and again with a soft giddy giggle which made you giggle in return.
Eventually, the food and Fizzy Faz was forgotten by you both, lost in the bliss of a new relationship with the two bots that had stolen your heart as Sun stole you away to their little charging nook for some proper cuddles and maybe just a few more kisses.. for good measure.
