an: i heart link, have some fluff. this was written with BOTW!link in mind, but any link can be applicable.
The warm spring air was drafting through the opened kitchen window, letting the small chirping choirs of the blue jays on the sill echo softly through the house. You were sitting at the table, a cup of tea in hand as you aimlessly dozed off, your gaze locked on the week-old bouquet of flowers that Link had plucked from his guilty pleasure he called a garden. The buds were just blooming so their sweet scent was potent and clinging to the fabrics of your kitchen curtains. You stared at the gorgeous flowers that Link picked and began to wonder where he picked up this hidden talent for the greenery.
Soft and nimble steps made the old wooden flooring creak and groan with protest for the weight it was forced to hold. Link had come back in the house and it showed he was outside for a while, his cheeks and tips of his ears were pink from the afternoon sun. he walked over behind you and rested the freshly picked bouquet of blue nightshade on the table, lifting his hand to smooth over your head. Link had leant down and pressed a long lingering kiss to the crown of your head.
“Link, new flowers again? These ones are barely blooming in the vase… you can't keep picking them and swapping them out weekly” you chided him once he pulled away from the kiss, a gentle flick to his nose as you watched him shake his head.
“Don't tell me ‘no’ mister, you'll kill those poor flowers if you continue to do it”
Link simply shrugged and nudged the new bunch of flowers in front of you, silently asking for you to trim the stems from their thorns and groom the leaves. You sigh and take a small pair of kitchen scissors and begin trimming the flower stems. You loved when link brought in new flowers, despite the consistency he has with picking a new bouquet every week. The flowers that grew in the not so small garden were all beautiful. He had a real knack for plant care, so don't let his rough looking palms fool you.
You had finished trimming the last stem as you gently placed the nightshades in a small vase with water. Turning in your spot, your gaze lingering on the small items that rested on the wooden shelves that link had set, small rocks and trinkets he had picked up on his travels around hyrule. Standing slowly, you set the scissors down and walked over to the shelving to admire the small items that sat collecting small amounts of dust before their cleaning. Running your eyes along the line, your gaze was caught on a uniquely shaped rock.
Reaching for it, you rose up on your toes and grabbed the object, only to find it as a bokoblin fang. A look of awe filled your eyes as you turned the fang slowly in your grasp, eyeing the blunt object carefully. It looked old, like it was taken years ago but you couldn't be certain. link gathered all sorts of things and had them displayed in your home. It reminds him of the days when he was playing hero to everyone. He loved to reminisce about the older days before he slowly stopped outwardly looking for adventure and began to settle down.
Link was mostly found outside playing in the dirt or toying with his flowers that he replaced so often. You had set the fang back into its spot and glanced over your shoulder to see Link watching you silently with a small fond smile stretched on his lips. His eyes were soft and filled with adoration for you, you could see how much he loved you.
“Link, where did you get that monster tooth? an old fight?” You asked, fully turning to look at him.
His blond bangs swayed with the movement as he nodded, a small hum leaving his throat, "Mhm..”
“That's cool, but why take it?” Your lilt was curious, gaze wandering to where he resided.
“It was a memoriam of the day… It helps me remember that it actually happened… so I don't forget….. Again…." Link murmured softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Ahhh that made a lot of sense, the memory clicking in your brain once Link briefly implied the mention of the day. The day he actually officialized the burning tension between you two. You remembered it so clearly, it rivaled the transparent crystals you had collected along the small walks Link took you on around the nearby village and stream.
The warmth of the setting sun and the rich orange of the sky as it bled slowly to a deep violet. your eyes shut as you enjoyed the small amounts of sun that peaked through the window panes. Link's hand has reached up and rested against your head, his fingers tapping gently against the crown. He drew you into his arms and let his lips linger on your forehead, a small noise of content leaving your mouth.
“Mm… you won't forget again Link… I promise...” You spoke softly, tone barely above a whisper as you stayed idle in Link's hold.
Link let out a small hum, his hand tugging you closer to him by your waist as he held you firmly. his hands holding you like you would disappear if he was to not hold on tight enough.
