Boscombe Pier was opened on the 29th of July 1889 by the Duke of Argyll. Like many piers, it was partially demolished to combat invasion during WW2. The pier was fully reopened in 1962. The pier entrance building was externally restored in 2007 together with a restoration of the pier neck. A new deck, lighting and central windbreak screen were added together with a new viewing and fishing platform end section, replacing the Mermaid Amusement Hall. The pier re-opened in May 2008. In 2009, Nothing To See Here named it Britain’s coolest pier. The National Piers Society voted it Pier of the Year 2010. #LoveBoscombe #LovePokesdown Check out the proposed neighbourhood plan for Boscombe and Pokesdown here: http://www.boscombepokesdown.org.uk/love/
