Jade loves old movies and it kind of gave her some romanticized notions on what kisses should be like. It's why she was really confused when Clint kissed her and she didn't feel anything since she expected her first kiss to be something more meaningful than that.
However, when Yrra kissed her, she could swear she felt sparks.
When Yrra came back to Jade's apartment, she found her crying on the couch, hugging a pillow.
"Jade, what's wrong?!" Yrra yelled, running towards the couch causing Jade to sit up in surprise.
"Oh! Nothing, really it's was just the movie." Jade said, laughing as she pointed to the television.
"What's happening?" Yrra said, sitting next to Jade and pulling her into a hug. She had come to learn Jade love movies, and favoring old ones to boot. Yrra wasn't sure she understood it completely but it didn't really matter right now.
"Martha took their own life because of a rumor a student started destroyed her life and the life of her friend. There's more to it than that but it's depressing that so much can happen because someone made something up." Jade replied, sighing holding Yrra closer.
"Why did you watch it if it's a sad movie?" Yrra asked.
"Why do people tell sad stories?" Jade replied with a shrug. "It's really a beautiful film. I knew what I was getting into." Yrra rolled her eyes but didn't say anything else.
Jade loves the cold. She supposes if she wanted to lose herself to the cold, she would have moved off to Arctic Circle by now but she had come to love what warmth could bring. The colors of flowers in bloom, vibrant city life, or feeling of Yrra sleeping next to her and her arms wrapped around her.
It was the first time she became self conscious about the side effect of having her ability.
"Does it bother you?" Jade asks one night.
"What do you mean?" Yrra asked, propping herself up on a pillow.
"The fact that I'm cold." She replies, gripping the sheets nervously. "You're warm, warmer than most humans. Is us sleeping together like this comfortable for you?" Yrra laughed at that causing Jade to roll over and frown. "I'm serious. This is serious."
"You worry about me far too much and it doesn't bother me. I worry sometimes when I am not fully awake and I forget about your powers. But I always know this is where I want to be." Yrra replied causing Jade to smile.
"Good." Jade said, pulling Yrra closer as she knew she felt the same way.
Jade drew patterns into the frost that was now covering the tub, trying to distract herself from the situation, the heat, the ever decreasing oxygen, the pain, or the million other things wrong. She didn't know how long she lay curled up there, when she heard the door open.
"Jade?" Her eyes flew open, recognizing Yrra's voice and she sat up immediately
"Yrra! I'm so-" Jade said before she stopped, backing into the corner of the tub. "Stay back!"
"It's okay, I'm here now." Yrra said, reaching out to brush Jade's hair from her face.
"No, you're not." Jade whispered, staring back.
"Mine." The orange construct said with a smile.
---
Jade awoke with a start, immediately realizing she was crying.
"You are free visit anywhere as long as you are a guest with us, within reason of course." Artemis said as she lead Laira's guest on a tour through the island. Another Lantern although apparently they used love instead of will. Artemis nearly scoffed as she thought about it. It sounds like something Diana would come up with but, as far as Artemis was concerned, love was not something for the battlefield.
"Your hospitality is appreciated." Yrra said as her attention was caught by the women training grounds, which Artemis raised a brow at. "They're very good."
"They're some of the best. We have a very proud tradition as warriors. We earn the right to follow in the path of our ancestors." Artemis said, raising her chin with pride. "Would you like to try your hand against one of them?" Yrra's lips twitched into a smile, as though she knew something Artemis didn't.
"I'd be honored to." Yrra replied and Artemis called for the field to be cleared before motioning over to one of the women. As Artemis and the girl talked, Yrra noted the girl was apparently named Jade and she seemed fairly young but if Amazons are a race of practically immortal warrior women it was hard to tell. As Artemis cleared the field, Yrra looked over the weapons before picking up a sword.
"Good choice." Jade called out and Yrra looked up to study her opponent closely before smirking.
"Let's see if you're as good as I was lead to believe." Yrra said before moving forward and she was surprised by the other woman's agility as she dodged forcing Yrra to spin around abruptly to block. They quickly fell into a rhythm that could almost be mistaken for dancing if it wasn't for the sounds of swords clanging against each other.
"I think Artemis underestimated you." Jade said as they came in closer as their blades met.
"Perhaps, you however-" Yrra stopped as she noticed the crown in Jade's hair. She knew it was Jaydian. "You're-"
"What is going on here?" Laira's voice cut through the air as she landed and Artemis's eyes widen slightly as she reached for her weapon.
"I thought she was the Star Sapphire you were expecting." Artemis said as she gave a withering glare towards Yrra and it was clear she was ready to attack.
"Miri Riam is busy elsewhere but Yrra is also a trusted ally and skilled warrior in her own right. So I'd prefer you to not pit her against our daughter to prove a point."
"I can handle myself." Jade said, rolling her eyes but a smile crept in as well. Laira was having none of it however.
"Jade, I brought some things from my trip. I want you to talk a look." Laira said and Jade looked towards Yrra and shrugged.
"I hope we can see more of each other before you leave." Jade said to Yrra before leaving the arena. Yrra tilted her head and caught herself admiring the other woman leave before she felt Laira's and Artemis's disapproving glares.
"I don't need medical attention. It's just a burn from the stove." Yrra said, rolling her eyes as Jade brought back the first aid kit from the kitchen.
"Which should be treated." Jade replied, opening the kit.
"There are better uses for our time." Yrra said, leaning so she was inches from Jade's face. Her lips curved into an almost cat like smile as she used her free hand to pull Jade into a kiss. When Jade started to kiss back, Yrra pulled back. "What do you say now?"
"Nice try." Jade said, with a small laugh. "But when I'm done, I know how you can thank me."
"Hold still." Yrra whispered against Jade's ear as her fingers deftly removed Jade's shirt.
"You're trying to distract me." Jade replied, a small smile forming on her lips which Yrra picked up on. Ever since Jade had gotten back, those had been increasingly rare.
"Trying? I'm succeeding." Yrra said before using her ring to quickly cut through the bandages around Jade's back. Even though Jade had been calm up to that point, she tensed, her hands gripping the sheets in an effort not to wrap her arms around herself.
"Relax." Yrra whispered urgently, rubbing circles into Jade's back soothingly until Jade calmed down again. Slowly, she moved her hand down to examine a large scar on Jade's back. "I think it's done healing. You shouldn't need the bandages anymore."
"Stop that." Yrra said, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend and pulling her closer. "You're perfect, and it's nothing compared to my scars."
"You shouldn't have needed to resort to that. You only did it because I was going to-"
"Enough." Yrra said, pulling Jade to lie beside her in bed. "It's not the scar that bothers you, it's the guilt."
"I did a lot of terrible things, Yrra. I remember doing all of it and I keep seeing it in my head." She whispered, burrowing her face into Yrra's chest. "They made me into the thing I never wanted to become."
"We really are different." Yrra let out a sigh moving her hand to stroke Jade's hair. "This isn't your fault and I'm going to help you through this. I don't regret anything I did to get you back and I'm not going to lose you again. Not to Cadmus or letting these inner demons consume you. Luckily, I'm pretty familiar with those." They lay in silence for awhile, Jade lightly tracing patterns on Yrra's skin with her fingertips as she contemplated something.
"You know, even after all the things they did to my head, there were somethings they couldn't change."
"Like what?" Yrra asked curiously. Jade had avoided talking about anything to do with her ordeal. Apparently, Earth psychiatry said that talking about it helped so this might be a good sign.
"I had a hard time sleeping. Eventually, I just piled the pillows on one side of the bed and curled up next to it. I didn't know that made me feel a little better but it did. Looking back, I guess I was missing you." Jade said finally looking up so their eyes met. Suddenly, Jade moved in for a kiss, their lips sliding against one another's until Yrra pulled away.
"There you are." Yrra whispered, smiling before kissing Jade's jawbone up to her ear. "I think we have a lot to catch up on."
To answer your question, I don't have one. I use comic book panels because I don't want an FC who doesn't have scars =P I use Ryan Reynolds for his FC when he uses his holographic image inducer.
