I was thinking about Streetlight Manifesto today….
The love I have for this band, I cannot put in words easily.
I’m so grateful for my cousin, who introduced me to these amazing musicians in the fall of 2005 when he picked me up during my first week of high school.
As a music major in my performing arts high school and at the beginning of my college career, these songs were my driving force to become better at my craft. And when I was going through the toughest years of my life, struggling with PTSD and losing my music, Streetlight was there. I’d lose my voice singing along, but it helped numb any pain.
I met some of my greatest friends through this band and introduced them to others. The ones I still have after all this time all have SM in common.
I go every time they’re in my state. I’ve only missed two gigs due to being out of state for unavoidable reasons. (I even once left a funeral dinner early to get to see them in Towson). Being in that crowd is a religious experience.
I even dragged my parents to see them play with an orchestra at Radio City Music Hall (after already having done this same thing with the previous NY orchestra gig with my bestie). They loved it, of course.
So to Tomas, Matt, Mike B., Jim, Dan, Nadav, Pete, Chris T., Mike S., Delano, Chris P….. all the members past and present.
I’m in this shit for life.
(Now get me some damn new music, Kalnoky. It’s been 10 years. Mayday is a good song, but that’s not enough.)
