The Creature That Lives in Lower Wacker Drive

One day you & your love take a road trip into Chicago to see some sights. The GPS insists that you take Lower Wacker Drive, even though you dread it each & every time. When you were younger, you used to get excited driving down there because that's where some scenes from The Dark Knight were shot. The GPS signal got lost, your stomach dropped, and then you saw it.

A creature cowering in the corner. It was tall and skinny, so skinny that you could see its ribcage poking out. It looked like a werewolf, some sort of mutant wolf at least. Lower Wacker Drive was the perfect habitat for such a creature, the darkness can hide it very well from the light and civilization.

You saw it only once when you were younger, but it still haunts you to this day. It peered at you, with its yellow eyes and its teeth snarling at you. Was it a dream? No because your mom said something, too, as you passed by it.

"Poor dog, it should be put out of its misery," she commented.

You knew that was no dog, though.

When you & your love drive through Lower Wacker, you look at a darkened corner and take a picture. You heard a yelp and a scuttle. You looked down at your camera roll, to see what came up in the picture. Nothing, just a creepy corner. The GPS signal got lost, and a creeping sense of deja vu dawned upon you.

You saw it again, or rather him. Except this time, it wasn't a creature you saw, it was a man. An emaciated man as tall as the creature you saw when you were younger. He had a deep sorrow in his eyes, his soul poured directly into your eyes as you drove past him. He was by a tent, there was one other person there with him, a child, just as skinny and just as sad.

You wept until you emerged from Lower Wacker Drive back into civilization. You wept and counted your blessings. A sense of closure dawned in on you, a closure that helped you move past the nightmare from your childhood. But now there was a new trauma opened in your adulthood, one you weren't quite sure you would ever get closure from.

I am so upset i love cities with multilevel verticality that provide different options to navigate ans explore and just learned that my own city of Chicago does have that in the form of a riverside lower level street but its ONLY FOR CARS

And because of that its considered this backrooms kind of driveway where people get lost because their GPS goes out because they're underground. It could have been something so cool. And underground level that provides more space for businesses and shops that still let you view the river. Or maybe it could act as the main road and the upper Wacker drive could be closed off for foot traffic only for more pedestrians. Hell, it could at least have some murals or art to make it more inviting like a secret art installation. But no. Because its FOR CARS its just a nightmare concrete snaking tube where dreams go to die I can not fucking believe this at least there's the pedway but I want more pedways or riverside pedways I hate cars so much
