i finally got around to watching lock stock & two smoking fireballs and the sneaky (un)lucky gentlerat has stolen my heart
tiny closeup and tinier spoilers for ep 1 below the cut!
every queer friend group has:
the lesbian still not over her ex
the aroace enby who's also an autistic allegory
the most casually bisexual old tosser ever
"give him 6 months"
and a cat
Cowards. They didn't go with the obviously cooler idea.
Fixed up this sketch a bit over the weekend, and already have another thing cooking
Lock Stock & Two Smoking Fireballs
I adore these characters already! I’m really love this campaign already, Midge and the boys have created a very different vibe compared to Plagueground, you can tell th stakes are higher.
#FREEPETE BUT NOT LIKE THAT
Hi hello i’m going so insane about the porcelain police. A lot of this is just my brain rot stemming from a few throwaway lines, but the whole concept is very delicious if not the most Thought Out. below the cut bc it’s long
Aside from automaton grunts that clearly demonstrate how corruption begins at the Top – the oppressive systems/factions of Donlon, etc – the scene where Pete needs to get tea and Midge establishes some World Building in e3 makes me absolutely feral:
The concept of having police literally fueled by the substance they confiscate is already just a great detail for this world + centering tea, but then Midge says their government-issued tea Comes From Seizing Contraband. That’s so insane. It’s such a good line. Here are your fucked up magiclondon police officers. they’re robots btw. but they’re still exactly how you’d expect. they’re fueled by taking civilian property << yes i know it’s drugs in this world but there’s gotta be more to it. it’s like. Like !!! ok !!! Dunking porcelain police in the body of water that amplifies everything it interacts with gives (at least one of) them individuality/identity. if the tea is also just exaggerating what’s already there (as it’s brewed with Flowwater) then them literally running on stolen material is such a good concept, even if again it might’ve been a throwaway line.
There is just so much implied…so much to be done…with them. we’re not given many scenes of them, but we know they’ve got Sort of Intense surveillance + the vagueness of Donlon’s actual official government makes the police that much more interesting. Who do they really serve? Who is at the top? Does it matter? As Has Been Pointed out what does colonialism look like in this world, given that the policemen are. Well. made of porcelain that is referred to as china multiple times + this whole story is about tea.
in e3 when Pete says “graffiti is not art, it’s vandalism” i was like. okay. okay. this is maybe the leftover porcelain police coding expressing itself in his beliefs. and it makes you wonder what prejudice is just coded into them as facts. and obviously they are automatons which makes this so much more explicit than normal conditioning or experiences/surroundings building biases. like this is the truth to them. street genies are nothing but vandalizers. also probably some verminfolk prejudice. what else have they got ingrained in them!!
The way the porcelain police must chafe with the Mudlarks because they’ve got different goals for interfering with tea trade is also so fascinating. It really does show how the competition between Donlon powers spreads to all spheres,,,,everyone is fighting not only over tea itself but how it should be handled ,,, the world building is Delicious even if some of this stuff is absolutely unintended and i need to lie down about it.
I wish I was smarter & had better words, it’s just nighttime and I'm losing my mind. please talk to me about porcelain police i would love to see all headcanons. i am currently working on a short fic before Pete gets chucked in the Flow solely to talk about the porcelain police
I'll be with you soon
Try to add in implications and failed.
by which I mean me myself cannot remember which part is supposed to implicate lol
