Tomorrow is going to be Lucien Carr's birthday and I celebrate it like every year since the day I learnt about this fabulous character! Let's start saying people usually think Jack Kerouac's main muse was Neal Cassady, his bestfriend, the one leading with him in his "On the road". Yes and not. More not than yes. Jack Kerouac had not only a bestfriend, had not only a muse, had not only an home in San Francisco. When in New York, his bestfriend, his muse (he appears in like 9 novels of his,way more than the number in which Neal appears) his Angel, like he nicknamed him,was Lucien Carr. And actually, the whole Beat thing starts with Lucien Carr, and a murder too. But that's other story. If Lucien did not find a way to express himself artistically speaking, and decided soon, too soon maybe, to lead a more ordinary life getting a job and a family, we cannot not forget he was the man making to meet Jack Kerouac with Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs, inspiring and encouraging them. He was Allen's youthful love interest, and was Jack's bestfriend (or possibly more) for a whole life. "I loved that man" He claimed when he died "I loved Jack, goddam it,and I never TOLD him!" Today we celebrate him and their special friendship, the one often underrated or hidden by many. Happy birthday to the man with the power to inspire characters to people. Not only Jack. But me too. #luciencarr #jackkerouac #Beatgeneration #PoeticDandies https://www.instagram.com/p/Cah9oC9MLPg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
