Lucius just nodded to the words of Chad, could not believe that he had put the boy in that situation. What kind of Father put his children in trouble? He put a hand over his face and shook his head, he had to get out of that situation by helping Chad as best as he could. He was careful where he was going, so that the guards didn’t understand where he was, and followed the young on the road.
“Chad, please be careful.” he whispered with concern, he didn’t want him to be hurt, however, even if he was a decent healer, he wasn’t going to let that happen. Lucius looked around and realized that, in a way or another, they found themselves surrounded.
“Elimine give me strength …” he sighed.
“No. No. Hell no.” The thief mumbled under his breath- A figurative dead end, caught between weapons and a lot of other sharp things- He should’ve bolted down the other way earlier. He should’ve, he should’ve. But he didn’t, so now he can’t. And now they were surrounded. Chad drew two knives from his belt, grip tight, hoping his admittedly mediocre abilities would be enough to drive them off- But honestly, it was unlikely. The six or so Bernese seemed more than capable.
But he wasn’t going down without a fight. He wasn’t going to let them lay a hand on the orphanage, or anyone in it. Gritting his teeth, a hiss escaped him as he bristled.
One of the soldiers laughed, a leery, condescending laugh, making fun of the seemingly feeble monk and the scrawny child attempting to defend themselves. “Hey, stop resisting and we might spare you.” another snapped, hefting his lance. It was a lie, they probably wouldn’t- His hand itched to chuck the knife in his hand at his face and shut him up. A snarl.
“Over my fucking dead body.” His hand raised, his wrist snapped forward, and an off-beat later, the soldier that had laughed had fallen to his knees, screaming, a knife in his eye.
So much for being careful.
