Ohh my. My highlight tonight has to go to this kid, #myson . Earlier I had picked up my bow tie when he became fascinated by them. When I was getting dressed he insisted on wearing one to his party. So I dug out one that I had happen to have worn to my mother’s funeral four years ago (he was 11months).... as we drove to our friend’s house he started discussing my mom intently. His questions were so soft, so inquisitive and so personal. Mind you - I had not told him when I last wore this bow tie! He got quiet in the middle of our chat and I looked back to ask him what was wrong - and with the most beautiful, empathetic voice reached for my hand and said, “daddy, I’m sad that you don’t have a mom to talk to anymore.” Needless to say, I nearly made my mascara run (ha). And then he added, “but you have me daddy. You can talk to me about anything.” Seriously, my lil five year old is more grace than most adults. His soul is bright. His spirit is gifted. I am the #luckiestdad I don’t know how, but my mom is in him, I swear. There are things he does and phrases he says that are her and I feel so close to her when he’s with me. So, thanks for letting me gush over this ball of joy - cause I know those of you who’ve met him already know what a magical boy he is ;). #gaydad #openadoption @tkvw12
