Midland - Barely Blue
#CountryMusic
So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I will be talking about the latest album from Country Music Group Midland. The new project is titled "Barely Blue" and was released on September 27th, 2024. But before we dive into the new project, let's talk about Midland's career for a little bit.
Some of the biggest hits from Midland include such songs like "Drinkin' problem", "Burn out", & "Mr. Lonely". Other hits from Midland are "Cheatin' songs", "Out of sight", & "fourteen gears". Let's jump back to this new 8 track CD next.
Some of the highlights that I found are "Lucky sometimes", the title track "Barely blue", & "Old fashioned feeling". The stand out tracks in my opinion are "Better than a memory", "Halfway to Heaven", & "Lone star state of mind". Here is the rest of the track list up next.
Track list.
Lucky sometimes.
Barely blue.
Better than a memory.
Old fashioned feeling.
Vegas.
Baby it's you.
Halfway to Heaven.
Lone star state of mind.
And that's a wrap for the track list And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this album a 4 out of 5 stars. I really don't like this ep kind of CDs. Midland had a hand in co-writing 7 out of 8 tracks. There are some stand out tracks on this new album. But if you are a fan of Midland, you should pick this up. Especially, since no radio stations play Midland anyway. Thanks for taking the time to read this review. See ya all next time.

Eye of the Storm - Chapter 2: Lucky Sometimes
Eye of the Storm – Chapter 2: Lucky Sometimes
Once upon a time my aunt Natasha and I had been beautiful women. That wasn’t really the case anymore. We’d only been in the camp a single week and already things had taken their toll on us. Even I couldn’t run anymore. I could still walk and I didn’t mind that but I’d lost my edge unfortunately. The stale bread with the butter suddenly became very appealing. We had that in the morning, thin soup…

Does An Ability To Warble Make For A Good Singer?
I know there's a lot more to it than just that, but warbling seems to be the trend these days. I know next to nothing about music, but I know tones and I can somewhat carry a tune, so this is in no way a scientific comparison, but these two singers seem to me to be about as opposite as it is possible to be.
First we have Ashley Monroe, who I didn't really care for, or who I didn't think had much more than just an average voice until hearing some of her newer stuff. "You Got Me" (about which I've already posted) is a case in point. She's strong throughout that song, and she's got a number of occasions where she nails a series of quick note changes.
In comparison, there's a newcomer named Weston Burt with a song titled "Lucky Sometimes" that to me sounds about as clunky as any I've ever heard. He struggles sometimes with single notes in the same word. It isn't really a bad song, as far as the lyrics and music goes, but I think that, at the very least, the singing shows a lack of experience. While I don't think I'm as clunky as he is, I will be the first to admit that I cannot warble, at least nowhere near as well as Ashley Monroe or others can.
