I got an urgent message from Savo that she needed help at the Gil, and so I dropped everything and ran for the aetheryte, and ran through the Mists, and ran into the room . . . and she wanted me to play clavichord for her on a song. I tried to explain to her what constitutes and emergency, I fear.
Also, I don’t know how to play any sort of keyboard! I keep meaning to ask Lady Eao if she could fit me into her schedule, because I’d really like to learn (if I’m not too old), but then I keep not doing that. Savo insisted it was just four chords, and I should just repeat them over and over. It seems she had written a song for the big wedding. Well, I did my best to learn the piece. I asked her if there was a dress code, and she said that everyone was supposed to wear orange or yellow.
Oh, yes, X’Inay and K’Ziyo were getting bonded! Which is a big deal.So we rehearsed, and I went off to find something orange to wear. I put together something as best I could, and then met up with Savo to go to the Lucky Sparrow for the reception.
Oh my, I hadn’t been there recently, not since they moved, and it is HUGE! And the layout is so impressive. I love the balconies. It reminds me of when I’m on a scouting job and I climb up in a tree to get a better view of what lies ahead, or to spy on a brigand camp. Except this time I got to look at everyone in all their finery. There were only a few people wearing any orange at all, let alone a whole outfit, which made me feel a bit like a big pumpkin. Also, Savo wore black!
There was song after song for the couple, it was like going to a show. And not just people from Lucky, but people from hither and yon. It must be nice for so many in the community to come together and support you like that. Or even know who you are, I suppose.
Savo and I went out to do her song. I made it through without messing up, though I’m sure my playing lacked confidence. Back to the balcony to watch the other performers. When the open bar was declared, Fhey absconded with multiple bottles and gave me a bottle of peppermint schnapps. I drank a little of it, but that’s too sweet even for me. I mean, I like a sweet cocktail here and there, but to be honest, I usually just get ale.I suppose it’s not very, umm, sophisticated. Maybe too many years on the road with not much gil in my pocket affected my tastes. Savo told me Fhey had drugged it, but I noticed no ill effects, thank Halone.
There was dancing after it was all over, and I danced for a while. It was then that I found out that THERE WAS NO DRESS CODE! Savo tricked me into dressing in all orange. Why am I not surprised? Also, why do I keep falling for these tricks?
Well, I certainly wish the best to X’Inay and K’Ziyo. I hope they felt the love all around them. Rather a perfect conclusion to the Valentione season, I think. Almost makes me appreciate the holiday more.
Almost.
