Earl: [sighs] ‘Right, here goes...

Earl: [speaks hesitantly] Lucy…I’m headin’ out for the office

Earl: I probably won’t be back til’ late, ‘supposed to be coverin’ for Bill.

Lucy: ...

Earl: [chuckles dryly] Knowing him I’m probably just coverin’ so he can stay in bed.

[Lucy remains silent, causing the tense and awkward atmosphere to grow stronger]

Earl: [clears throat] I’m supposed to be takin’ blood today, if you want I can bring extra back.

Lucy: [responds hesitantly] N-no I’m okay.

[Earl begins to awkwardly twiddle his fingers, trying to find the right words]

Earl: You sure? ‘Diabetic may even come in, I know that you- (*note: Diabetic blood tastes sweeter to Lucy)

[Lucy interrupts Earl and turns away solemnly]

Lucy: I’m fine...honest.

[Earl sighs and gets closer to the door]

[Earl leans his head on the door, sadness and mild annoyance tinging his voice]

Earl: Lucille, everything I do, I do for you...

Earl: I hope you know that.
