"Oh, come on, Professor..." Lucy gave him a playful nudge. "It's just a question..." She laughed. "Well... That's one of the reason I wanted an answer before I left..." She looked down with a blush.

Professor Smith’s jaw went slightly slack before he inhaled deeply through his nose. “Don’t tell me anything else,” he spoke on the exhale. “I don’t want to know. Not which professor. Not which class. The less I know, the less I’ll feel required by my teaching contract to take note of.”

"Good, so then, anyway professor... I was wondering if... Just out of simple curiosity... What is your opinion of teachers having romantic relationships with their students?"

"No," Professor Smith grumbled. "Don’t make me answer questions about teacher/student relationships. There shouldn’t even be questions about teacher/student relationships to begin with and the fact you’re asking me one isn’t—" He stopped himself. "Aren’t you late for another class, Saxon?"

"Professor... I don't..." Lucy laughed. "I am just genuinely really happy about being successful in Defense. I mean, I haven't ever really..." Lucy gave another small laugh. "I'm not saying you're not a... desirable man, but... I just don't fancy you." Lucy shrugged. "Sorry...."

Professor Smith blinked. “Lucy, I…” He swallowed. Blimey, what was in the water in this place? Students fancying professors. Students reading into things that weren’t legible in the first place. Rumors spreading like wildfire. “Lucy, I’m genuinely pleased you’re doing well in my class now. I never thought you did fancy me.”

"Professor Smith!" Lucy beamed as she walked up to him after class. "Professor I-I just wanted to let you know that last night I finally figure out how to successfully deflect a hex." She grinned."It was perfect, and I'm so proud... And it's all because of you, my brilliant professor."

"That’s great, Lucy. Knew you could do it." Professor Smith returned his student’s grin, but he seemed a bit distracted. "And it had nothing to do with me. Nothing brilliant about me."

"You do realize you're the handsome, older, talented, charming, and caring Defense teacher who does more for his students than most. A lot of girls go for that... I might if I didn't hate the class so much..." Lucy shook her head. "I have to do something. This just isn't right..."

"You do realize I have a past," he mumbled, only partially to Lucy. His fingers curled into tight fists. "If you want to do something," he said, fully to Lucy this time. "Then go be with Miss Song."

"And I didn't think it was such a big deal because it was you... I mean most of the girls have crushes on you... Why wouldn't they?" She shrugged. "But now, I don't know what to do..."

He chuckled humorlessly. “Why would they? If they knew, Lucy…” He stopped himself, shaking his head. His eyes darted back to the Hufflepuff. “Look, it’s not your fault. What you did was brilliant. Fantastic, even. You don’t need to do anything to fix anything. You’ve done nothing wrong.”
