Sometimes I read fanfiction and writers put quotes in the beginning of the chapters. And I just spend like 5 min thinking about those quotes and forget for a minute there's a whole fic to read.

here’s my opinion on Fidget Discourse

sometimes one person using some kind of fidget object can make it very difficult for someone else to focus. one time in art class i asked emily @wolfstarforever to please stop tapping her pencil because it made me unable to concentrate, and then she did something else that was less noisy. but obviously, an adult and a 7 year old are different. whose needs take precedence? you could say ‘the student who is neurodivergent’, but what if they both are?

i also have more thoughts about the garbage racial categories of tumblr (this is america-centric, because so is tumblr race discourse). they’re basically as follows:

white people have fair skin and straight hair. they are native and monolingual english speakers, and their names are english and easy to pronounce. they have no connection with any european culture and are not immigrants. all white americans have basically the same culture, regardless of location. white people never have accents other white people dislike. white people are protestant. white jews will be mentioned to make a point and white wiccans and buddhists will be mentioned when making fun of white people. if white catholics are mentioned, it’s because of 1) talking about guilt or 2) talking about priests touching little boys. white mormons are mentioned in the context of mitt romney. nobody knows what orthodox christianity is and white muslims definitely do not exist. 

black people are all the descendants of slaves brought to the american south. they don’t have connections to non-american cultures* unless they’re rediscovering their heritage. they are native and monolingual english speakers, and they all speak aave. all black americans have basically the same culture, regardless of location. black people are protestant. if black muslims are mentioned, it’s only in the context of the nation of islam, and then only when talking about the civil rights movement. black jews will be mentioned only when people are talking about how terrible israel is. black people don’t have any other religions. 

hispanics and latinxs all have medium brown skin and straight or wavy dark hair. they are all recent immigrants, or the children of recent immigrants. they speak spanish and never any indigenous languages or other european languages except english. they are catholic. there are definitely no protestant or jewish hispanics or of any other religion. white hispanics and asian hispanics will not be mentioned. *afro-latinas will be mentioned to make a point. 

muslims all have medium brown skin, dark hair, dark eyes, and are middle eastern. they are all recent immigrants and speak arabic. all muslim women wear hijab all the time. asian, black, or white muslims do not exist (except when discussing the nation of islam, as mentioned above.) also, all middle easterners are muslims, except israelis, who are all jews. 

asians all have fair skin, straight black hair, and black eyes, unless we’re talking about indians, who all have dark skin, straight black hair, and black eyes. all asians are recent immigrants or the children of recent immigrants. they all speak a language other than english. it’s fine to arbitrarily group them with white people when you feel like it, which is cool because they all have economic privilege anyway. if their religion is mentioned at all, which it probably won’t be because tumblr doesn’t care about asians, it’s either buddhism, hinduism, or atheism. christian, muslim, sikh, or other religion asians don’t exist. (exception: sikhs exist when you’re talking about how they’re the victims of misplaced islamophobia.)

native americans only exist when you want to make a point. 

mixed race people are always half-white and half-something else and they also only exist when you want to make a point. 

any other race doesn’t exist.
