The huntress knew she ought to be in bed, but the heat and been nigh unbearable the past few days, and the chill of the night was absolutely lovely. She could have gone out earlier, perhaps. But then the base would have still been nosy with people, and it would be much harder to enjoy the peace and quiet nighttime afforded with well, no peace and quiet.
So she shuffled out of her bedroom, bare feet quiet on the rickety old floors of the base, hair left flowing down her back over her nightdress. It was dark, but she didn’t mind. The low light would serve her eyes better when she finally got outside to get a look at the stars.
Johanna paused as she came around a corner and spotted someone else lingering about the dark halls. Unafraid, but surprised. Most others that could be encountered this time of night were those tromping out of their rooms to the latrines one last time before they were out for the night, or perhaps to the kitchen to steal a late night morsel, or sometimes snipers doing much the same thing she was aiming to do. She squinted for a moment before she thought she recognized the figure.
“Herr Lugar?” She asked softly. “You’re still awake too?”
