Serpent Song: Patron character Timur

A Patreon character created by @darklordreasonable, a Luhabra named Timur who lives in House Kazacht. He’s one of the Rot-eaters, a sub-breed of Luhabra often shunned and reviled for their diet of carrion. Their eating habits are much more accepted in House Kazacht, whose desert-dwelling citizens have a respect for such a survival tactic. Timur uses his natural gift of flight to help map even the most remote corners of the vast Mahhatad desert.

Serpent Song: The Luhabra race

Another common race in the world of Serpent Song, the Luhabra are similar to pterodactyls, yet have an unusual life-cycle. The young are largely immobile and grub-like, and after cocooning themselves for about a year, emerge fully formed with a large pair of wings and a unique bony crest.

The Luhabra are the only known race capable of flight, and because of this, many other races (especially the Shomu) harbor an innate resentment towards them. “Chimney-shitter” and “Hollowbone” being the most common slurs.

Luhabra culture often refers to other races as the “low folk”, and they have a reputation for being condescending and prideful. Despite this common stigma against them, they have a rich cultural heritage and have been a contributing part of the Imperial houses for centuries.

Most provinces allow Luhabra to fly freely wherever they please, though there are many laws against loitering on rooftops. Luhabra often sentence criminals among their kind (like Fajir the bandit in book 1) to have their wing membranes cut and bound, rendering them flightless until they heal. More heinous criminals will have their wings amputated entirely. To most Luhabra, there is no harsher or more shameful punishment.
