How fid luis and nika meet eachother and how did their pining start? I love them so much 🥺❤ ( I bought the comic and the art is so pretty and the story is so sweet!)

Hey, Thanks for your message! I’m so happy to hear you’ve enjoyed my comic : ) Sorry for the late reply, I had to find the time to type it all up. I feel a bit embarrassed talking about Nika & Luis backstories, I suppose because I’m new to having OC’s, but I will try to give a brief summary.

Some spoilers for my comic “I’ll be in the sunrise”

Luis lives together with his older sister Isabel, since their parents died in an accident. They have a small house some miles away from the next town and are pretty much self-sufficient, but do some odd jobs here and there.

There’s an old hut at the end of the road, even further away in the woods, that has been empty for the longest time, but when Luis is 17 and Isa 19, a man moves in. The Sheriff came by to tell them to be cautious, but the siblings hardly ever see the man called Nika. He greets them politely on his way to town, but otherwise keeps to himself.

This changes when Isa is harassed by some strangers in town and she later spots them lurking around their house. The siblings decide to ask Nika for help and he fends off the men and then continues to sit on their porch the whole night.

From then on every so often there’s a knock on Nikas door and it’s Luis or Isabel with fresh eggs, vegetables or leftover food. And while Nika’s reluctant at first, he eventually agrees to come over for dinner. And they just get along at once. They’ve all been lonely in their own way, the two siblings on their own and Nika in his self imposed exile, so it happened to be exactly what they needed.

Isabel and Nika hit it off right away, spending a lot of time together. Luis is a bit reserved around Nika in the beginning. He suspects Nika to be interested in his sister, but since that doesn’t happen, he finds himself looking more and more for Nika’s company himself.

He has a strange fascination with the older man and it took him a few years to understand it. Luis is 22, when he’s sure he has a crush on Nika and what he feels is attraction, but he doesn’t really know what to do about it, or if there’s anything to do at all. Luis had girlfriends in town, but he never felt like getting serious with any of them. Isabel's dating history is similar, but this changes when she meets Lenny. Lenny starts to become a regular visitor at their house and Luis feels a bit left out. He’s afraid of things changing, but also seeing his sister happy really makes him think about what he wants for himself. Unable to talk to anyone about his feelings for Nika, he starts to spend more evenings away. Isa and Nika see the changes in Luis behaviors, but so far Luis evaded all questions. This is the starting situation for my comic. Luis is 23 years old by now and Nika is 32.

Not a big surprise, if you read my comic, but Nika has feelings for Luis too. He loves both siblings dearly, but never had any romantic feelings for them. This changes as Luis gets older and it comes as a little shock to Nika that Luis is suddenly a young man. There’s a shift in their relationship, because of Nika’s changed perception, but also because Luis is not quite as subtile with his feelings for Nika as he thinks. Nika has been with other men before, and he notices Luis' interest, but he’s not the type to take the first step. He had quite the turbulent past and he craves someone as genuine and good natured as Luis, but he’s just not quite sure he deserves him.

Good thing, that Luis finally ready to take a brave, albeit a bit clumsy first step ; )

Here I am with my weekly comic update and some general infos. I’m basically done with the comic! : D I just have to draw the cover and then I can open pre-orders! Maybe even next week?!

I want to do this similar to the Inferno zine two years ago. One month of pre-orders for physical copies and then as soon as the comics are shipped, I will make it available as digital download as well. Does that sound okay? : ) The comic will be 24 pages, 17x24cm. It’s bigger than Inferno, but it has less pages, so I’m looking to keep it in a similar price range. Still checking printers and possible options. More soon!

I finished inking all 23 comic pages on sunday, so I finally had the time to draw a bonus smooch for page 24 ♡ There’s still a lot to do until the comic is ready for print, but the biggest chunk is done : )

“And the cigarette was still wet from his lips” I can’t remember where I read this (lets be honest, probably fanfic), but I thought about this quote while drawing these panels. This is an excerpt from page 12. Only 6 more pages and then I’m done with inking!!
