Someone Who Cares ~ Cookiiiiies
Chapter 2 of SWC
Heroes and villains are not supposed to get along. Yet roommates are. Sam is an anxious hero who’s simply trying to get good enough grades to pass college. Luke is a villain who’s guarding himself while trying to get better at one of the few things that make him happy, art.

Sonic Sense caught the building just before it hit everyone inside. He heard the screams of terror while he used all his strength to hold it up, which was a lot.
Inferno stood silently as he watched the hero, Sonic Sense, catch the building. A cruel smirk crossed his face. “My. My. My! Aren't you a demigod!"
He looked up at Inferno, before concentrating on lifting the building higher as people escaped, trying to get out before it crashed down.
Inferno watched for a minute before sighing heavily. "Honestly, Sonic. Why do you even try this hard?" He moved under the building to stand next to the hero, having to duck lightly.
“Because there are innocent people here.” He snarled lowly.
He hummed a bit. "I'm sure at least some of them are guilty of something." He gave a toothy smile.
“Will you just leave! You’ve done enough already.” Sonic Sense glared at him.
"Mmmm. I don't think I have." He looked up at the building. Sonic Sense’s eyes widened at the threat." I say you have, mm, give or take five minutes, before you drop this on everyone in a three-mile radius." He gave the hero a side-eye. "Am I right?"
Sonic Sense looked down for a moment. “Four minutes at most.” He tilted his head back up.
"Good. Just enough time to talk." Inferno got in his face. "Tell me. Why have you done this for so long."
He sighed. At least everyone had more time to get out. He hated talking to villains but if it was saving lives... “What, all two years?”
Inferno rolled his eyes before spotting a group of civilians, the group was taking videos of their conversation. "You are protecting idiots."
“So what?” Sonic Sense muttered. “I don’t care if they’re idiots or not, they need help.”
He rubbed his face. "They put themselves in danger. Making you stress out over it. Over them."
“You were the one who took out this building’s support!” Sonic Sense shook with anger, either that or from the immense weight he was holding. Inferno helped lift up the building, with one arm. Making sure the hero couldn't move the whole weight on him. “What are you doing?”
"Helping." He grunted, annoyed.
“W-why?” He asked, getting slightly dizzy. His vision wavering from lack of nutrition, though he didn’t let the villain notice.
"Because I don't want this building to fall while I'm talking." He rolled his eyes. "That’s just rude." He paused, but there wasn’t a response so he continued. “Now." Luke adjusted his stance, managing to lift the building up a few more inches. "Why do you insist on helping these fools?" Luke gestured to the slowly growing group.
“Because I’m the only one who can do so and will. I don’t have anything else to do anyway.” He said indifferently, clearly not caring.
Inferno just steamed quietly while glaring at him. "They don't deserve you. They don't help you at all.” Another pause, Sonic Sense wouldn’t talk. “You get beaten to the ground. Bloody and broken. Yet they don't help you. AT ALL!" He was getting more and more heated as he spoke. Literally.
“Why do you care!” He finally shouted.
"BECAUSE I DO!" Multicolored flames shot out of his raised palm. Incinerating the building completely. Ash drifted around them. Both of them could hear the screams of the bystanders and he glared at him, then again couldn't care less about the idiots that clouded the sidewalks. The air was getting distorted around him with the sheer heat coming off him. Sonic Sense got in front of him, a small glare.
He took a deep breath before sighing. “Go home Sonic.”
He frowned “And leave you here? No way.”
He stared at him. “Go. Home. Sonic. Sense. I’m done for today.”
Sonic Sense stood his ground, still glaring at Inferno. He had learned long ago never to trust what a villain said, it never ended well. Eventually, Inferno decided to give up on trying to reason, waving tiredly before walking away.
Sonic Sense sighed looking at the wreckage, most everything was burned, including all the bodies.
All those bodies.
He shook his head. Usually, he would have helped take care of all of this, but he really had to study, and the last thing he wanted to do was clean this up, so he ran home through the back streets. Changing and taking a shower in his home since he didn’t have to hide anymore.
Luke changed out of his villain suit several blocks away. He slammed the door closed before collapsing on the couch. “Uuuuuugh.”
Sam came out of his room. “Hi, Luke. You okay?” He walked over and leaned on the kitchen counter.
"Fine," Luke growled a bit.
Sam watched him for a moment, “You can tell me, maybe I can help.”
He shook his head. "No. Just an annoying person."
“Oh.” Sam got some ice out of the freezer and placed it on his head, just trying to cool off from the heat intensity still. “I’m sorry.”
"What happened to you?" Luke looked over at Sam.
Sam shook his head, sighing heavily. “Just a fight. I’m fine, just a bit tired.”
He hummed tiredly before falling over on the floor.
“Luke!” Sam yelled in panic, running over, by his side in seconds.
"Uh?" He looked up kinda confused. "What?" Luke shook his head a bit.
“You fell off the couch.” Sam held in a bit of a laugh. Luke sighed, staying on the floor, spiking Sam’s concern again. “Do you want help?”
"No, no. I'm fine." He rolled over a bit on the floor but didn't get up.
Sam backed away a bit. “S-Sorry.” He mumbled. Thinking he had messed up somehow.
"For what?" He looked up at Sam before getting an idea, putting it into action immediately. "Join me on the floor! It's fuuuun!"
“Are you... okay?” Sam looked over, concerned for a much different reason now.
“What are you doing?”
"The floor is just a big uncomfortable bed!" He chuckled a bit. "Join the dark siiiiide! We have cookies!" He joked a bit while rolling around a bit.
Sam frowned. “What do you mean the dark side?”
"The floor people!" Luke burst out laughing.
Sam’s frown turned to a tiny smile. He laid down carefully on the floor, his muscles ached but he liked seeing Luke smile.
"Yesssssss." He laughed like a child. "Wanna know a secret?" Luke looked over at Sam. One of his hands in the air.
He chuckled. “Sure, why not.”
"Promise you won't be mad?"
Sam smiled lazily. “What’s up?”
He snapped his fingers and a tiny flame flickered to life on the tips of his fingers.
Sam blinked. He scampered backward, knocking something down while he did so, biting back a scream.
Luke looked at Sam. Extinguish the flame. "What's wrong?"
“You are Inferno.” He whispered while staring at him, eyes wide. “Gosh, I trusted you!” His shoulders slumping protectively over himself.
"You thought I was me before. What has changed now."
Sam looked him over. “You said you weren’t him... and for once I decided to believe someone!”
"At that point I was Luke. I wasn't trying to be an Inferno. IT wasn't a lie.” He sighed. “I trust you too, you know."
“What is that supposed to mean? I told you who I was, I didn’t hide who I was.”
Sam tried not to be angry, but he was.
He sighed heavily. "I couldn't at the time because I couldn't get a read on you."
Luke was strangely calm.
Sam went over to the kitchen. He leaned on the counter trying to gauge what was happening, he didn’t notice Luke stand up.
"Sam. I'm sorry." He moved a little closer to Sam.
When he jumped away Luke backed up again, watching the smaller male push his curly hair to the side. “You could have easily killed me earlier, why didn’t you?”
"I-I just couldn't." He dipped his head a bit. “I couldn’t. Not to my sorta friend." He flicked his eyes to Sam's.
Sam swallowed. “W-What?”
"What? Didn't you think of me as a friend too?"
“I~” Sam froze. “I never had a friend, I guess I didn’t realize.”
Luke smiled a bit.
“I guess we are.” Sam smiled a little before his face fell. “But I’m a hero and you're a villain...”
"So? Right now we are just Sam and Luke. College students. If that makes you feel better."
“I never thought about it that way.” Sam looked up and bit his lip. “So are we friends?”
"I'd like to think so." Luke smiled.
“Well then, I uh, guess we’re friends.” Sam’s smile grew genuinely.
He held out his hand. "Wanna make it official?" There was a sparkle in his eye
as he smiled like a kid.
Sam paused a moment before chuckling. “Sure.”
He shook his hand. "Hello, friend! Now! Back to the dark side!" Luke fell to the floor. "Weeee!"
Sam laughed and went on the floor with Luke.
"Our cookies are burnt. Whoops." Luke giggled a bit.
“Cookies?” He asked, watching Luke.
"The dark side needs cookies!" Luke declared with a finger in the air. He pulled out some raw cookie dough. "Coookies!"
Sam laid on the floor smiling to himself before a freshly baked cookie dangled over Sam's head. “Cookie?”
“Thanks!” Sam ate it quickly, realizing how hungry he was.
Luke sat down on the floor. A glob of cookie dough in his palm. Slowly baking.
"I'm not all destruction. I can make things too, you know." Luke smiled sheepishly.
Sam smiled. “Lucky.”
"Mm?" Luke held out the cookie while popping a raw dough ball in his mouth.
Sam grinned. “I’m glad you’re my roommate,” Sam commented while taking the cookie. “And not just because you can make cookies.” He joked.
"Why?" He looked over at Sam.
“Because I don’t have to hide my powers from you. You understand.” Sam started eating the cookie, slower this time. “I’ve had to hide them before and it suuuucks.” A little bit of his own playfulness coming out.
"I agree. That's usually why I don't have roommates. Though after three fires they assumed I was a pyromaniac." He giggled a bit. "They gave me to you so you could keep an eye on me. Ironic. Right? Didn't you get a letter?"
Sam shook his head. “No, I never get any letters.” Sam paused. “Wait- who would write me a letter?”
"The people who own this building." He looked up at the ceiling.
“Hmm, so they know about my other identity then.”
"Eh, I doubt it. They just saw one person that wasn't making trouble and gave them a troubled one." He smiled a bit.
Sam shook his head, rolling his eyes. “Figures.”
"What does?" Luke held out another cookie.
Sam sighed. Mumbling about things that didn’t make sense. About people wanting to get rid of him, and kill him.
Luke only laughed. "I don't quite understand but whatever! WE! HAVE!! COOKIES!!!"
Sam was silent for about a minute, his attitude changed. “Well, ah. I’m an orphan.”
Luke looked over at Sam. "Oh." He put a cookie on Sam's head.
Sam couldn’t help the urge to grin. “I guess that’s why I’m so concerned about keeping families together.”
Luke smiled a bit before pausing. "What about the not-so-nice families?"
Sam sighed. “I don’t know, it’s still nice to save lives.”
Luke rubbed his neck a bit. "Well, I guess. That's true."
“These cookies are really good.” Sam plopped the rest of the current cookie in his mouth.
He laughed a bit. "Thank you!”
“I should probably get some studying done.” Sam sighed.
"Yaaa. But Coooooookies!" Luke fell over, giggling.
“I can bring my book out here if ya want.” Sam laughed. “Nice to stay up with someone instead of being stuck with my own company.”
"Yesssss. Oh! I need to make a portrait for school. Mind if I sketch you?"
“Um, ya? Go ahead.” Sam smiled shyly while standing. Helping Luke up who went to go grab his notebook.
When Sam returned with three big books in his hands and a notebook, there was a plate full of freshly made cookies as well as a few more snacks. "The Dark side has more snacks." Luke looked up, looking serious for a moment.
Sam laughed. “Yay!”
Luke patted the ground. "Come on Don't be a stranger!"
Sam laid down on his stomach next to him. “Alright, What do I need to do?”
"Just sit and don't move much. I mean you can grab food and such but try going back to the same position." Luke smiled a bit. "And relax."
Sam nodded. “I can look down at my books right?”
"Yep!" He nodded while adjusting his notebook.
They were like that for about an hour. Eating snacks, Sam busy at his books, and Luke drawing a portrait. After several yawns from Sam, Luke began to notice. "Do you wanna go to bed?" Luke looked up from his sketch.
“No, I’m fine. I’d stay up anyways.” Sam smiled sheepishly. “I never sleep well, I’m used to it by now.”
Luke frowned a bit. "Are you sure?"
Sam nodded. “I’m great, this, this is great.” Sam smiled. “How’s your drawing coming?”
"Pretty good. I think it's almost done." Luke showed Sam an almost realistic portrait.
Sam stared at it in amazement. “Luke... you’ve got talent. Wow.”
"There wasn't much to do where I grew up." He shrugged a bit.
Sam grinned, his eyes shone a bit. “I’m awful at drawing.”
Luke smiled a bit. "I bet you're good at other things."
“Hah, I wish.”
Luke rolled his eyes before bumping Sam a little with a fist. "Don't be so hard on yourself.
“It’s true,” Sam said, looking up from his book.
Luke sighed before blowing smoke at Sam.
Sam coughed a little, hiding his face a little, hiding the faint fear on his face.
"Well, I think you're cool." He gave Sam a smug grin.
“Well then, you’re the first. Thank you.” He smiled back.
"Hey, you've beaten me lots of times!"
“You’ve beaten me up way more.” Sam raised his eyebrow.
"Yes, but you were close!" Luke smiled a bit. "I'm sure you will get better and better!"
“Well, I guess I can do one thing alright.” Sam shrugged looking back down at his book, hiding a smile.
"See!"
“One,” Sam repeated.
"One is better than none!"
Sam shook his head, his smile appearing again.
"Saaaaaammmmy!" Luke whined a bit.
Sam chuckled looking back up. “Yesssssss.”
Luke looked at him with a scowl. "Eat a cookie rain cloud."
Sam grabbed one of them examining it. “It would be fairly easy to inject poison in this thing. Hide the evidence, it might even work!”
"Why would I do that? I'm flames, not poison." Luke leaned over and bit into the cookie.
Sam chuckled, handing the rest of it to him. “I never said you would, just noting how you could.”
He chuckled a bit. "They aren't poisoned or messed with in any way.”
“I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t be eating them if I did.” Sam sighed, resting his heavy head a moment.
"Are you sure you don't want to go to bed?"
“Mm?” Sam lifted his head.
"You seem tired." Luke set down his notebook. "Come on. I'm putting you to bed." Luke picked up Sam, pulling a yelp of surprise as he tried to protest. "Nope, you are going to bed, Sammy!" He chuckled a bit.
Sam was held uselessly in Luke's arms, resting his head down against him.
Luke pushed Sam's door open. "Man, your room is a mess."
Sam sighed. "No time to clean it, and when I do, I'm usually too tired to.”
Luke sighed but laid Sam on his bed and threw a blanket over him.
"Thank you." He smiled up at him a little. Curling up in the warmth of his bed.
"No problem. Go to bed." Luke waved while closing the door.
