I have a confession about Narcissa Malfoy: while I enjoyed Helen McCrory's performance as Narcissa and her design was really beautiful on its own, I still would've liked seeing Cissy as she was described in the books with her long, blonde (only) hair and blue eyes. I know they tried giving McCrory a blonde wig after seeing her wear one in set photos but I guess it didn't suit her but still. I got the idea of British actress Zöe Lucker portraying her, she has the 'look', if that makes sense?

Hey, Kris, I'd like your thoughts on something: a few times now, we've seen Pearl (and others, maybe?) show confusion at how humans show emotion especially with one another yet countless times we've seen she and other Gems display the same complex emotions/reactions to fellow Gems for the same reasons humans do. Why do you think they, especially Pearl, show such a lack of understanding with regard to human emotion when the CG have lived on Earth for thousands of years?

The Gems may have lived on earth for a very long time, but they’ve been isolated from humans and have separated themselves from humans for pretty much all that time. They may be on earth, but they’ve only had extensive interaction with each other and as such haven’t gotten used to human emotions. The only gem who seems to have had any long-term dealings with humans is Rose but it seems pretty clear that she was alone in this. Like people who go on vacation to a foreign country but stay in a community similar to their own and don’t go out to where the locals are.

It’s only now that Steven is in their lives that they’re dealing with humans on a much more regular basis, but even then they’re still very limited. Also, in their timeframe it hasn’t been for very long at all. Imagine you moved to a new country and tried to integrate. You would still be struggling after a few days - which is the equivalent to how long Steven has been alive compared to how long the gems have been alive.

I totally agree with you about the Zazie and her hairstyle and Domino's ethnic ambiguity! On the subject about that ambiguity, I would have been so hyped if they cast an Asian actress like Lucy Liu, Hettienne Park, Kelly Hu or Joan Chen, especially with that slicked-back pixie cut she sported in Twin Peaks, it was such a look omg; especially since Asians can be really overlooked and forgotten in the conversation about diversity.

oh that wouldve been neat too.... lucy liu has always been wonder woman to me but i’ll take any alternative i can get

Jessie, I loved reading your answer and believe me I am reading it over and taking NOTES because I love doing my own redesigns of super suits and reading your breakdown as a passionate fan of Elektra's is so fun and interesting to read. I totally agree about red being the dominant colour because obvi but are you cool with the mask covering her nose and mouth as well as the headscarf? What if she wore a red mask over her entire head also does she need to have long hair worn down?

im generally anti facemasks with her?? like her not having one is more of a statement for me like she doesnt have a secret identity, she’s legally dead, and when she oes after someone she wants them to know its her??? because she has nothing to hide and generally the headscarf looks better alone imo. i prefer her hair down because curls but again its something i’d like to see as like.. an option she has for specific situations that require it since its obviously not always practical lmao so versatility is more important

Hey, Jessie, I was wondering what your thoughts are on Domino's design for Deadpool 2? I love that they cast Zazie Beetz and inverting her eye patch into a vitiligo patch is really cool but the end product feels kinda underwhelming? Honestly if they cast a darker skinned actress like Viola Davis or Rutina Wesley or Yaya DaCosta, the white eye patch would have really popped against their dark skin, since her comic design is so stark and striking I feel like it only makes sense.

LOVE IT!! darker skin on the patch would def have been a good visual but i probs wouldnt change zazie for the world now after seeing set photos n stuff??? my fav neena thing is when the eye with the patch is a different colour to the one without and she has that!!!! so i feel catered to specifically. i love the gigantic hair bc it’s cool when you think about how yeah it probably makes her more noticeable to shoot at but the point of dom is that she DOESNT get shot at.the outfit has some domino vol 2 vibes which im into. in general though im just... so thankful they didnt go for a white girl because there’s no reason for neena to have been white she’s never been shown with even a Normal Human Skin Tone in comics so playing on that is really the coolest shit. im so happy to have one of my favs that i never imagined i’d get in live action looking so good the lord is shining down upon me. angels are singing

I wanted to ask: do you have any ideas for who you'd like to see play Kitty? I was watching a video about the upcoming Kitty Pryde film and it mentioned the obvious likelihood of having yet another white brunette lead cast in the role and that got me thinking of actresses of colour who could play her before finding out people were already reimagining her as mixed-race from your Kitty Pryde tag! Anyway, I thought the obvious choice of Amandla Stenberg but also Kelsey Seville.
