Part 1/3: Scotland and England

Here’s part 1/3 of the project I’ve been working on for the past week! I wanted to explore different fashions from the 11th century using Macbeth, Gruoch, and Lulach as the models, so the following posts are what I’ve managed to come up with for that through my surface level research… I like to think I search to the best of my ability, but sometimes there’s very little to find, especially for like Scotland and Ireland pre-Norman influence (though I didn’t do Ireland anyway), so a lot of it is just guess work… and creative liberty too, of course. Enjoy!!

THAT REVERSE AU OMG so are the personalities swapped in any way? or is it same characters, just different situations? (hhhhhhh also since duff has a kid, is the prophecy changed???)

mostly it’s a roleswap au. the personalities only change to fit the role better (im pretty sure canon! favianna would not convince her husband to murder, so)

the prophecy is changed a little, but not on duff’s end. sirrah, his son, takes the role of historical macbeth’s stepson, lulach, who doesn’t appear in the play. i just love the egg bapey too much for him to be invisible. the prophecy states that malcolm’s family will be king, so the immediate assumption is his brother will inherit. malcolm isn’t really phased by this—after all, prince consort doesn’t become king anyways.

Heres Lulach!

Not featured in the play, he was the real-life Lady Macbeth’s son from her previous marriage. In this au his biological father is a loner but as far as he’s concerned, Macbeth is his dad.

Design-wise, he’s similar to Lady Macbeth (colours, hair tuft, spotted tabby). He’s polydactyl - 5 toes on back paws, two dewclaws on the front paws -  and his spots are kinda based on spiders: Black widow hourglass on his back; freckles in a wolf spider eye formation; spider bite “piercings”

Part 2/3: Normandy and the (Holy) Roman Empire

Found out the other day that the HRE was just called the Roman Empire in the 11th century… and then the HOLY Empire in the 12th century… and it wasn’t until the 13th century they actually called it Holy Rome. But from what I could scrounge up, their fashion is actually pretty neat! Oh yeah, and also there’s Normandy

Part 3/3: Byzantium, Kievan Rus, and Scandinavia

These three have got to be my favorites, though Viking Age women’s fashion in particular takes the cake for me—and I may have chosen references for the Rus that were a little earlier than the 11th century, but still, they knew what was up
