Goddd okay, so several years ago, I posted about how I've always suspected that, when Vanitas says he "knows that face" about Chloé in this panel, he's talking about something he witnessed before in Luna.

For all that the larger context of the "Chloé's revenge is suicidal" reveal serves as a parallel to Vanitas, I don't think Vanitas is talking about himself when he says this. The fact that he specifically recognizes this sentiment by something he sees in her face, rather than anything else, makes me strongly suspect that he's seen a similar expression before on another person. And I always figured that, unless it was about some other yet-to-be-revealed Major Death in Vanitas's backstory, this line had to be about Luna by default. Save perhaps Vanitas's dad, who feels less likely, there's just no other characters in his backstory he could have witnessed this sentiment from.

But! After years of assuming this had to be about Luna by process of elimination and vibes, I just realized something else. In the panel immediately after this, where Vanitas expresses his disgust at this sentiment, the art is a close-up shot of Vantias's hand.

Mochijun tends to be very intentional with how she links disembodied speech bubbles and the images they overlay, enough so that I'm confident this was on purpose. This art placement ensures that Vanitas's disgust at the expression of self-satisfied self-sacrifice is linked to his relationship with Luna. And not just that, but linked visually to the night that Luna died, the night when Vanitas was Marked by them.

I didn't directly say as much in the original post, but I've always assumed that, if Luna did at some point "make an arbitrary decision to die alone," this would have also come to a head the night that they bit Mikhail and Vanitas and died. Now this feels like the heavy implication that I'm right. The origin of Vanitas's disgust at Chloé's choice/expression is tied to the origin of his Mark, which is yet more evidence that he's talking about Luna here.

For whoever has the time and patience to answer: I have a very important question, please answer me honestly. Would you consider this picture blackface?

I'm a cosplay photographer, and l've recently had a shooting with a person who cosplayed Luna from Vanitas No Carte. For those who don't know, Luna is a supernatural being of unknown origins who's supposed to represent the darkness of the night and other fantasy stuff like that (they're not an ethnically black character).

Now, the girl was cosplaying her with a really, really dark blue skin paint, that, especially in the shadows, almost looked like black. A friend of mine whose opinion is really important to me told me that that cosplay was blackface, but other people say it isn't, so I don't know what to do now.

So, I tried to bring out the blue hues in order to make it evident the paint was blue toned. However, I still don't know if this picture is okay, and, if it isn't, how to tell the cosplayer that the pictures can't be posted, as blackface is horrible and I want to avoid it at all costs.

I'd like to hear your opinion about this!
