Dead Bird Studios... Frankly, she wasn't exactly excited to come back here, especially with how the directors simply abhorred her after their last encounter. But... rumours spread about the yellow owl(?) that was known for his western films... That he was pretty cruel to his employees, and that he'd cheated to get his last few awards, even threatening someone's life for it.
It seemed that entering the sci-fi and sparkly side of the studio would be her best option if she wanted to learn more about the dark underbelly of this Studio. The problem is, security was supremely tight for his end of the studio...
On the other hand, the Moon Penguin’s side of the studio left quite the opening for her. Not that security wasn’t tight, but it didn’t seem like the Penguins could actually see very far. There were many occasions that Mu thought she was caught by one, but was quickly proven wrong the moment they turned around and continued their business.
Infiltration proved simple, even after she made it past the elevator... If she weren’t in such a precarious situation, she’d take more time to more closely examine the rather familiar movie posters with a certain someone on them. But she did pocket some of the shinier bits of the costumes hanging about until...
What on EARTH was that gaudy room?? A royal, massive bed sat in the far end of it. This HAD to be that starry penguin’s place.
Soon enough, she’s rummaging through the furniture, trying to find any trace of dirt on the Conductor...
Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Mu awoke Christmas morning the way she’d grown accustomed to: not expecting much at all. Certainly, her living situation had taken a dramatic change (i.e. NOT in some cave freezing underneath a lighthouse surrounded by enemies), but focusing nearly entirely on survival in what her little island town had become, she never had time to celebrate much of anything.
It was only recently that she’d met her closest friends and found adults she could trust, after all. Remembering to celebrate Halloween was a miracle.
Which is why the little presents sitting at the foot of her bed caught her by such surprise.
Reactions under the cut. Long post ahead!
@curious-corvidae :
There's a little, neatly wrapped package at the foot of Mu's bed as she wakes up, the ribbon tying it together accented with a single, immaculate black feather and an envelope. The letter inside reads: "Hey, Mu, my dads and I have to head back to the U.F.B. for the holiday, but I still wanted to get you something! I'll get your reaction when I'm back, huh?" Inside is a sturdy new leather bag with numerous pockets... with a small pressed poppy inside of one of them.
The moment her gaze fell on the glossy black of the feather, she knew exactly from whom this present was. Parker. Her Parky-Park, ever methodical and neat in whatever he pursued... Leave it to him to know exactly what to get her.
Now she was certainly no expert on leather goods, but she did know her way around stitches and sewing needles. The craftsmanship of the bag sitting in the box was done by an expert’s hand... Reaching into her belongings, she pulled out the shabby sack she’d used up until that point. Though her own bag was certainly more resilient than the average cloth, it was still made with cheap material, and the shoddy patchwork she’d added to keep it together made that all too clear...
It was such a small detail of hers, yet he still understood how important something like this was to her. A deep warmth sat in her heart as Mu held the bag like a friend...
@lunar-luminary :
What's this? Why, it's a nice little package for Mu emblazoned with the Dead Bird Studios logo. Judging by the fact that the tape on the box is particularly glittery, it isn't hard to deduce who it's from. Inside rests three neatly folded suits, a couple hats, and a nice headset identical to those of the moon penguins were it not for the fact that they were the proper size for a human girl. The cloth is of exceptional quality.
Yet another package arrives for Mu that is... positively COVERED in glitter. inside is a note and what appears to be a new and slightly more embellished version of her usual outfit. The note reads: "Happy Holidays, Darling! I do have to admit, I'm not quite sure what your style is, so I hope that these will do. Stay warm!"
Even now, the fact that she’d been accepted by so many people--especially one of the world’s most renowned filmmakers--was still so difficult for Mu to believe... Yet here was proof positive, sitting in two separate, yet beautiful packages.
The irony didn’t strike her nearly as hard as it ought might have; where most children her age would turn up their noses at receiving clothes as a gift, the young Farosian lass found it difficult to hold back her tears as she ran her hands along the fabric of each of her new outfits... These were hers? She could have all of this?
It then occurred to her that it was... Warm. Though it was deep in winter where she was from, she was warm... Her eyes turned to the source: the heater... Then, her eyes traced the corners of where she was. A comfortable, colorful and vibrant room...
She couldn’t have all this, could she? Was it really okay?
The weary little girl from a small seaside town wept in her room, though she didn’t understand why.
