Since her 1990 Food Porn series, Marilyn Minter has worked with assistants to complete her paintings, a strategy that allows for her work’s increasing scale and intricacy. The large size and formal complexity of a painting such as Redhead is the result of this collaborative process. The lushness and excessive layering abstracts the work’s content while drawing the eye to the painting’s surface.
Marilyn Minter (American, born 1948). Redhead, 2015. Enamel on metal. Avenues: The World School; Collection of Sherry and Douglas Oliver
