Hi!

I recently rescued some of my childhood dolls from their prisons (aka my parent’s house) but their hair is in bad bad shape.

I hate to bother you but do you have recommendations for doll wig sources? I have a variety ranging from conventional barbie dolls and American girl dolls to Mystery Dolls that I am guessing my Gran got at a craft store.

I know you deal with higher quality dolls than that so do not feel pressured to respond.

Poor darlings! They are so lucky to have a rescuer like you. And “quality“ is entirely subjective – if you love them, they are the highest quality dolls in the world to you.

Wigs can be a bit tricky sometimes. I know Etsy has a variety of sellers, although sifting through their search function can be difficult. Still, you would probably find what you’re looking for there at least. eBay sometimes has wigs as well, usually secondhand. It will help a lot to measure your doll properly – there are diagrams online on how to measure for a wig. Then you can search “[size] doll wig” on your site of choice and browse the results. I don’t have a particular favorite brand myself – I’ve gotten wigs from all over in the past

THANK YOU FOR POSTING ABOUT LEATHER WORK! I just realized that Dad has a leather belt in his basement that Grandpa made and it is just sitting there all sad and dried out and I CAN FIX IT! I may be a bit excited by this. So thank you!

Mwahahaha Tell me your Secrets! cocoa - if you could have any type of hair, what colour and cut would you have? crow - which school subject do you wish you had an aptitude for?

Cocoa - Oh man I actually really like my hair and my haircut, but for like most of my life I really really wanted curly hair. Like, I’m talking the guy who plays Q in the Daniel Craig Bond movies, or like BBC Sherlock hair. My actual hair is fairly straight, and the kind of dark brown that people aren’t sure if it’s brown or black. My hair cut for the last several years (aka my ideal haircut) is very very short (between 1-3″ depending on when I last cut it) and stands straight up on the top of my head. Toddlers tell me I have “very fluffy” hair pretty consistently and idk that I’d trade that for curls lol Crow - I gave myself a concussion by tripping in PE so I’m going to say PE lol

the people must know: what did it sound like?

the näverlur sounds like a screaming upset elk, or like a angry fog horn generally.

it is not really an instrument per say, but a tool used in herding for sending sound signals, calling animals back home etc.

here is a clip of it in use. they are two musuem workers at a norwegian musuem, playing at eachother from a distance, which is how it in real life was often used for communcation between herders.

as a side note, i got some problems finding a video of näverlur just being used as a herding tool+ just to make noise.

the musicians trying to make näverlur a thing as a music instrument: stop. it is not going to happen. please. the näverlur sounds like a horny elk.

Hi Systlin, So Long Story Short: I think Odin may have helped me while driving through Iowa a few days ago. There was a lot of fog and I couldn't see and it was new roads for me, and I was like Iowa> Systlin> Odin and it worked? Like a few minutes later the fog was pretty cleared up! I said I would tell you what he did, and also offer something nice to him. Alcohol probably. Should I leave it out or drink it with/for him? Think he would like a crochet crow? Thanks in advance!

Have you every done a loop stitch? I am currently trying to tackle it (your fluffy bunnies made me want to make tiny fluffy things without using fluffy yarn) and I am having Such Issues. (I will slowly master this stitch)

I once tried to do loop stitch from a half-remembered tutorial and ended up with an unraveling tentacled monstrosity in bright rainbow colors, but you’ve inspired me! I’ll tackle loop stitch some time in the next few days, probably. If you want the way easier way to make tiny fluffy things without fluffy yarn, use a wire slicker brush! That’s what I do most of the time. If you search on my tumblr for the bunny beanie, I have before and after pictures of just how much fluff you can get with a slicker brush. You just make a thing as normal, and then brush with the slicker brush and it gets super fluffy. Not quite fake fur fluffy, but almost! To actually answer your question, no, I’ve never successfully done loop stitch. When I do it, sometime in the next few days, I’ll share any tips I figure out.
