Don’t look back. His lungs feel as if they will give up, pulse thundering in his ears as he wills his legs to keep pushing forward. He can run, it’s just not his favorite activity in the world. It’s a necessary evil. Usually, he has the upper hand so he doesn’t have to run as much as he does now. He’s never overestimated an op and today should have been no different. Everything was going smoothly until it wasn’t and for the life of him he can’t figure out why.
He needs time to regroup and figure out a plan, figure out how and why he was compromised, inside Intel stopped responding so he’s in the dark, he can keep running but that solves nothing.
Eventually, he sees civilization in the form of buildings. Not the pickiest man in the world he runs to the first one he sees, maybe the lingerie in the window gives him the idea that no criminals would lurk in here so he’s safe even if it’s just for ten minutes.
He barges inside, sucking in air greedily as he holds himself up against a wall, he wipes at his face with the back of his hand, his other, clutching his side, blood drips from his nose, he winces with every breath he takes. “Oh… jeez,” he exhales before looking over at the counter. “Just another work day, yeah?” he forces himself to laugh. || @luxe-lay
