We came across these old Shuttles that were used on our Madras looms when we first started weaving 122 years ago and thought we would share them with you!❤️ Madras was formally known as ‘Scotch Leno Gauze Weave’ and was brought to the valley by Flemish refugees at the end of the 16th century. Sometimes when you see something everyday you forget to appreciate it❤️ Its good to appreciate the old.....and to remind ourself how fantastic traditional machinery can still be!....like our Singer Machine that laces up our pattern cards, this still works perfectly & is over 100 years old! MYB believe that it’s important for the younger generation to learn & appreciate skills involved in manufacturing....they are after all, our future of our Textiles Industry! 🧵 So we try within our busy schedules, to help Students & pupils from local schools with their portfolios, by enlightening them on our processes & translating their own designs into Madras fabric. Cliona Riach created this fresh tree design and will be using it to construct her own garment for her studies this year. Cliona is lucky enough to be guided by the experienced Art Teacher Lesley Parham for her course at Queen Margaret Academy. We can’t wait to see what Cliona produces in the coming months!
