P r i m e r a e n t r a d a

At Cost Magazine - Blog Digest #4
Photo of synthpop duo JOAN
The work of a music blogger is a never-ending task. Even though they say the music blog has been made obsolete by curated playlists or various streaming platforms, we still think we’re providing an essential service (excuse our ego for the moment) with At Cost Magazine and Swede + Sour (yes, another shameless promotion).
Through blogging or blog posts, we provide feedback and convey stories not possible through the quick and disposable ethos of strict music streaming. So despite our best efforts and the fact that the good, bad and the ugly continue to permeate our inboxes, unfortunately we still manage to leave out even really great music deserving of our undivided attention. This blog digest is our commitment to those musicians and their artistry.
JOAN - “Take Me On”
Driven by its dreamy coat and the frost of its 80′s-tinted synth pop is the Los Angeles-based synthpop duo of JOAN composed of Alan Thomas and Steven Rutherford. Their latest single “Take Me On”, is lifted by into a hook-heavy progression, driven by repetition and a falsettoed R&B gloss.
LVNA - “Stalker”
An atmospheric track driven by its jazzy snap, LVNA, the UK-duo of Lydia Clowes and Teresa Origone, releases “Stalker”. Smooth and steady only to be lifted by a sweet vocal shrill, it’s a track that goes down mellow with its pleasant easy.
Marsheaux - “Like a Movie”
Composed of keyboardists Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou, the Athens, Greece based duo echoes a lo-fi charm not unlike Brooklyn’s Au Revoir Simone. Zooming synths and the clickety-clack of its beats follow the pulse and the saccharine-sweet of their vocal twee in their video single “Like a Movie” which you can see below. "Like a Movie" features on their recently released album "Athlon" out now:
NEKRO - “Interstellar ft. Lapin Lover”
Titled “Interstellar”, Southern California producer NEKRO features frequent collaborator Lapin Love in the atmospheric R&B smooth of his latest track. Echoing a woozy haze, Lapin Lover’s vocals are raw and raspy in the lo-fi trip out that is “Interstellar”.

RAINE - “Lesser Materials”
Taking her name from the Pacific Northwest of the United States, Jaqui Rae Stewart’s is derivative of the word “moraine”. Similarly taking from the splendor of her surroundings, is her latest “Lesser Materials”. Answering the sweet howl of Steward’s vocals, the transcendent sounds of wooden flutes send forth a spine-chilling yet an undeniably beautiful haunt to RAINE’s latest single
