I’m An Artist: And I’m Serious
I launched my OWN website this year, that needed money.
I upgraded my SoundCloud account to PRO for more upload time and more detailed statistics, that needed money.
I'm gonna press out physical copies of #YAR soon, that needs money.
I'm about to shoot a video for "Funny How", that's gonna need money, only for equipment because <inserts stage name>
I'm a student, I get an allowance every month for "food and taxis" (music), and I do freelance graphic design work between assignments, and get booked at shows around Durban, that's how I try fund everything.
I'm not trying to stunt on anyone, some people don't get an allowance unfortunately, but I'm trying to tell you how genuine and fucked up my priorities are.
Every cent I get, it funds something, those #NORMVL stickers? The #NORMVL caps? My personal #NORMVL hoodies and sweaters? A lot of these things are things a record label is good for, like, I don't have or get a lot of money, but the things I do with it probably make you think twice.
I can prioritise music goals OVER my stomach, I forget to eat sometimes, like my mind convinces my stomach to stay put until I've done what I'm doing, then maybe ngabo 11pm it starts to eat itself :/ it's SOO unhealthy, please don't try it, there's a reason we're told to eat thrice a day.
I funded the #NORMVL Mixtape with my allowance/grocery money, by eating 2 minute noodles and bread and maybe fries for a month, maybe somebody would spoil me every now and then, but my money went to #NORMVL.
Lmao, I once cried one morning laying on my bed starving, after I had asked my uncle for R50 for bread, and he sent me R500...brah...(Thank you Bhuti)
I sacrifice so much for my art, not for validation, but because I fucking love it, I love holding things that came out of my mind and heart.
I go through a lot emotionally, I don't force myself to be angry or frustrated on songs, it's just the way it is, finding an outlet for my frustration and sadness through music helps me sleep like a baby.
I don't just invest money into this, I invest my sanity and my happiness, not for anyone but myself.
So, in short: I'm SERIOUS, I'm really fucking serious about this shit.
Don't ever doubt that.
