Not “gone”
Synopsis: It’s been years since the major battle mudando lost most of his friends and comrades but most of all his first love the battle that made him to who he is now. Little does mudando know his first love ended up surviving but is now living with a low profile in order to look for a solution to end the oni and momo war.
Notes: This fic does NOT fully corollate toward the plot that is happening in Tougen anki right now so please keep that in mind . It’s just a “what if” story either way hope you enjoy (even with sum errors)

Smoke was everywhere as it was hard to breathe or even see the scenery in front of a injured mundano, who was laying on the warm humid ground trying his best to see if there was any signs of life around from his comrades . As there were bodies laying lifeless by their sacrifice to end the war between oni and momotaros . The smell of bloodlust and disparity in the air as he was trying his best to get up after the last final blow from the momo he just ended. With the feeling of dread and rage beneath his calm and serious demeanor mundano took a good look of all his comrades lifeless bodies and swore to himself that he will take their sacrifices and deaths not in vain and avenge them by ending this war between the momotato agency. As he started to walk around trying to look for her the one person who he can count on being alive who he had plan to start a future once this ended. But he was snapped from his thought process as he was stopped in his tracks by no other than Oirankaza who was running towards him with a worry expression in his face
“Dannochi are you okay?” , “Yeah I’m fine….” He took a second looking down with a defeated look in his face remembering the war flashbacks that his comrades faced “But I can’t say the same for the rest of our team, I’m sorry I couldn’t do more for them-“ he was cut off by Oirankaza “Don’t you dare blame yourself we all know what we were risking in order to stop them, in order for a change to happen from here on out we just have to keep working hard and train in order for their sacrifice to not be in vain” Mundano looked up with a tearful look not wanting to cry but the tears daring to show up.
“He’s right” a injured Masumi said as he emerges from the shadows with cuts all over coming from both this arms walking towards them agreeing with his red hair color friend
“We have to endure this in order to move on and the next generation to learn from this” Masumi looks at both of them “But we have lost a powerful momotaro from our hands”
“Who? We killed most of their souldiers” Oriankanza stated “Samidare Momoya” Masumi stated with his permanent smirk . Mudando clenched his jaw unseemly feeling frustrated with the whole situation. But was soon snapped as a thought popped in his mind again….her, the first thought that got him back into his feet again before Oriankanza distracted him “Have one of you seen y/n?” Mudando said with a hint of desperation in his voice .
Onirankaza and Masumi look at each other with a mutual look of defeat. As they both have don’t want to break the news towards their friend standing in front of them with a blank expression not wanting to think the worst of the worst that could’ve happened towards her.
Masumi sighs and starts the conversation “We haven’t located her whereabouts yet“
Mudano looks at him with a puzzled look confused and in disbelief on what just came out of his mouth. Onirankaza adds “We lost her signal to her headpiece once she faced off a momo” Mudano ask “How powerful was this momo?”.
Onirankaza looks down “They were pretty powerful as they were the same strength level as y/n” Mudano with a now clenched jaw trying his hardest to stay composed just as they taught him in Rasetsu. Masumi noticed his composure and said “Don’t worry we are trying our hardest to find her I’m sure she’ll be fine after all she was the second strongest in our class after you”
Mudano nodded hoping it was true and Kyoya patted his shoulder and added “Masumi is right we just have to focus on rescuing the rest of the survivors and you need to rest as well” he said as he gave him a reassuring nod.
10 minutes have passed after that conversation……….
……..then 20 minutes……..
…………30 minutes…….
………….40 minutes
50 minutes ………..
……… 60 minutes ………..
By each passing minute Mudano couldn’t stop thinking if you were okay if you were badly injured if others were injured if there was even a difference made? After all that bloodshed on the battlefield. “How lowly of me to think that , of course there was a difference made” he thought. He grew more anxious as time passed by until finally he found out that your body hasn’t been found other than your blood trails from the last fight you fought but even those didn’t lead to where you were.
Before you went “missing” there was a fellow comrade of yours that saw you in a brutal fight with the momotaro Kyoya mention inside a building that got burned up. They soon looked into it and found out the momotaro you fought was dead inside the building as well as a body that had the same silhouette as you. Therefore they proceeded you as dead. Everyone was shocked and devastated as one of the most important assets in the agency was pronounced dead?.
But no one was as devastated as Mudano , through his calm and serious demeanor there was a dim light that went out the light that you created in him the one you so carefully placed in him. He couldn’t believe you were gone just like that he blamed himself for not being there for you, not protecting you and for being “weak” because in his mind if he was stronger as others say he is he would’ve stopped this from being the outcome . He accepted your death for being his punishment for not trying hard enough he took your death as a harsh punishment for his wrong doings as a soldier . But inside Mudano’s mind there was a small voice in him telling him that you weren’t dead that they were wrong but he couldn’t prove it, but still had faith you were still out there alive and well and willing to come back to his arms .
Masumi and Kyoya didn’t like seeing the sight of mudano not having nothing to say about your departure they couldn’t really distinguish weather he believed your death or was fixated in trying to make a better future for the future generation to not go through this. One thing they could tell from Mudano’s sudden change is that he does miss you and they do as well , after all you were in the same class as them it’s hard to believe that you’re gone now.
Time passed after you died . Mudano became commander of the battle unit then soon quit to become a teacher at the academy you both meet and trained. In order to prepare the next generation after failing to end the war during his time he took it upon himself to train them and become better onis in order for them not to repeat the same mistake he made.
As for you, your story didn’t end in the burning building that the momo tried to end you.
[Flashback]
Your vision was hazy and blurry you couldn’t make much on what was happening other than your body was in agony from your injuries but you tried your hardest to pull yourself together after that final blow both you and the momo threw at each other it’s safe to say the momo died after your final attack on them as you see a figure laying down with a pool of their own blood. As you tried your best to get up but you couldn’t you were too much in pain and a loss of blood in order to pull yourself up from the ground
“Is this really how I go out?” you ask yourself as you hear the ceiling crumbling down little by little as the flames expand more furiously as the ashes and smoke made it harder to breathe. Making it more difficult for you to get up leaving you still on the floor almost lifeless , feeling more lightheaded by the minute you feel yourself losing consciousness. Before you fully knockout from exhaustion you hear a voice from an unfamiliar person.As they are picking your fragile body up carefully.
“I got you,now don’t you give up on me” …….
Soon you wake up in an unfamiliar place as you looked around still laying down in a bed for a moment you thought it was inside the oni corporation but it didn’t feel the same. What gave it way was the color of the walls which were sky blue and in the one cooperation had white walls. You try to get up the fastest you could but struggled a bit because of a deep cut you have in your rib and your twisted ankle on your left foot. Once you got up from a laying position you were sitting up in the bed resting your back against the bed frame looking around some more now that you had a clear view of the empty room that only contained the bed you are currently on and a night stand besides you and not to mention a small window that shows the outside which showed a beautiful scenery of the mountains and the greenery outside.
You were soon alarmed by the sound of a knock coming from the door on your left and you hear “I’m coming in no need to be afraid” . “Yeah right” you thought you kept your guard up not wanting to fall for any possible trap. The person came in and to your suprise it was oni by display of his horns he showed. He looked like a older looking man probably in their early 40’s with brown color hair he was average height for a guy next to him was a small girl about 10 years old or maybe younger wearing a white gown the same as you like a patient she had light blue hair and was hiding behind the man looking shyly at you.
“How do you feel?,are your injuries bothering you?” He asked
“Where am I and who are you sir?” You stare at him trying to read him
“My apologies for not introducing myself I’m Kai and this kiddo behind me is Rita a patient I cured” he said with a cheerful tone.
“And you are currently in a secretive base away from where I found you, can’t say how far but just know it’s far enough for a long car ride alone” Kai said
Kai takes a careful look at your face noticing your uneasiness
“Don’t worry your safe I can reassure you that and we won’t do anything harmful toward you, right Rita” Kai said as he looked at the small girl now besides him peeking out to see you.
Rita nodded. “Now since I answered your questions now answer my previous one”
Kai said
You nodded still keeping your guard up “Yes I’m fine , it’s just my rib and ankle that are bothering me at the moment“ you stated pointing at your right rib and left ankle
Kai nodded “Yeah those will take a while to heal but since your an oni you should give it at least 4 days to recover both your rib and your ankle “ Kai raid reassuring you. Then he looked at your puzzled face and he could tell you still have questions.
“As towards the reason why you are here is because I rescued you from a building that was caught on fire from your previous battle with a momo . You were knocked unconscious because of your injuries and stamina” Kai said as he looked outside the window
“For how long was I knocked out for-“ you said as you were cut off my Kai “ 2 days “ he stated “I’m guessing you know this isn’t the oni agency as I stated before. I’m a previous oni doctor from the corporation but soon had to quit because I was diagnosed with a rare condition that could end my life at an early age.“ Kai looked at you with kind eyes as he didn’t just tell you he’s dying soon as you just meet him.
He continued “Throughout these past years I have been researching a cure in order to cancel the momotaros powers as a whole with a vaccine or drug so they would stop attacking our kind”
You look at Kai with a skeptical look having a feeling where he’s going with this. Kai continues to speak “from your look I’m guessing you know where I’m going with this do you?” Kai says with an eyebrow raised
“Perhaps I know where you’re going with this, perhaps not” you admit still feeling skeptical but not in danger “does that involve using my blood in order for your research?” You say with a blank expression since you don’t know what to make of this quote “research” of his.
“It does indeed actually since your power gives you the ability to poison your enemies by using your blood, but there is a disadvantage am I right from using your ability?” Kai ask pausing before continuing “you have to eat poison plants and see if your body handles it first correct in order to build a tolerance ?”
“That’s correct” you answered but asking yourself if that was his reason for saving you from the burning building in order to run his research.
You glare at Kai wanting an answer that you are asking yourself. “Was that your reason for rescuing me from that burning building?” You pause before continuing “so you can you run your experiments on me for your quote “research” “
Kai looks at you a bit surprised from your tone of voice but sure enough he was still composed and calmly answered “If I’m being honest yes that was one of the reasons why I rescued you but not really.I was close by the area looking for one of the plants I needed in order to run my experiment and wandered off and saw that the oni corporation was in battle I didn’t want to get involved but I saw you using your power and well I waited until you came out of the building but you never came out so I went in and saw you were in really bad shape so I took you in ”
You scoff “you waited for me to come out? What are you some kind of stalker?”
Kai chuckled a bit “sounds like it huh? I guess I was stalking for a bit” but then his lighthearted smile dropped changing into a serious expression“But I do have a question to ask you regarding my research you can accept or decline my offer I won’t take it personally” .
You look at him a bit taken back from the sudden mood switch . But you nodded in agreement in order for him to ask his question. Kai kneels by your bed and ask “Will you be willing to help me with by research and use you as part of my experiments in order to stop the momo from using their powers as a whole?”
You look down at your hands thinking about Kai’s offer .You let your thoughts run off as you could feel your heart beating by the second the loud pounding on your chest going off. If there was a cure in order to stop the momos from using their powers there would be a big advantage for onis from being attacked and losing their loved ones there also a big advantage during combat . But what about your life at the oni corporation the combat unit still needs you , he still needs you how long will it take for this research to happen and if there’s a chance of a cure to happen what are you going to tell Mudano? .
On the contrary you do find Kai to be in the weird side of the spectrum as a researcher but he has admitted all of his intentions to be true so far since he’s pretty straightforward ,also what’s with the kid behind him is he using it as a manipulation tactic?. She seems more attached to him than being forced to be there and stay with him so that leaves her out of the equation. “This is a tough decision to make” you think to yourself.
You keep looking at your hands thinking over the possibilities and the outcome of this decision feeling the weight from it all on your shoulders the past the future. You were soon distracted by a small and shy voice coming from behind of Kai and it was no other than Rita. “Mr.Kai m-maybe you c-can just give her time to think about it, d-don’t you think?”
Kai turns towards Rita and says “I guess you’re right Rita” Kai gets up and walks towards the door with Rita as he was about to close the door. With the feeling like your heart was about to explode from the anxiety of what could possibly happen after this after what he just told you ,your thoughts got the best of you and you intrusively shouted “WAIT!!”
Kai halts and turns towards you in a surprised expression with his eyes widen. You were surprised yourself by your sudden outburst you don’t know what came over you. With the look of determination you looked at Kai and asked your final question before making a decision “Tell me every detail about your research and the experiments I’m going to be apart of if I do take this deal”
Kai smiled and gladly explained detail for detail…..
Soon you understood and agreed not wanting to look back even if that meant leaving and hiding from the oni corporation you understood this is for the past and for the future onis you are willing to put your life on the line.You hope one day Mudano understands that as well even if that meant resenting your for it . After all you were the only oni born with this type of ability in the corporation and if you can’t use it to the max in order to save your kind why be giving this ability in the first place?. You swore to protect onis and it’s your duty to follow through
“I’m sorry Mudano I hope you understand one day” you think to yourself.
