Cautionary Tale

You can’t keep bottling thing up... It’s only a matter of time before they explode.

          Why his sister had to be so right? Couldn’t his downfall wait at least for a full day to pass before her warning? It seemed like only a few hours had passed from the moment they’ve been talking at the institute and all of a sudden his secrets were being projected in front of them for all to see; Jace had almost  d i e d  and all of it because Alec simply couldn’t control himself. 

          There hadn’t been much time to think as the memory demon was defeated and they brought Jace back to the Institute for treatment. There wasn’t time then but there was plenty of time now and as each minute passed guilt was eating up at Alec’s insides along with the panic that rose up each time he thought about what would happen once Jace was finally awake again. Maybe there was still time for him to run, but that would only make him even more of a coward, wouldn’t it? At least no one could falter him for not being consistent. 

          Pacing his own bedroom the young shadowhunter was torn between going to see his parabatai and getting as far away from him as possible, hands running nervously over the back of his own neck as he eyed his own door nervously.
