Trait ask: Lydia Devin!
I definitely haven’t destroyed any universes lately you can’t prove anything
Lydia Devin!
(Oh god personal names are hard)
Her name is Lydia. Her assignment is action! Lydia "The Devil" Devin is a hard-nosed Chicago cop assigned to kick the door down on corruption!
So the standard gruff white dude protagonist in my current game is looking for "Lydia", among others, and I'm just thinking, "Man, everyone's looking for a little bit of Lydia, you know? You just gotta have faith that she's out there."
Deep thoughts.
I'm going to post something here that I don't often post actually. Fanart. This in particular is of the main character of the Correspondance From the Goddess you can find that here: http://goddesscorrespondence.tumblr.com/
Or at least my interpretration of her. She's named Lydia Devin and she is for all intents and purpouses omnipotent, certainly beyond what most mortal minds could grasp. And here she is basking in her own powers a bit, because why not? Although I think being way too deep into Exalted has sortof upset my view on that level of power. But anyway, being omnipotent is a little bit difficult to contend with when trying to lead a normal life. But even more so perhaps when you're young. When one careless stray thought or action can lead to consequences beyond mortal understanding. I really like her character and sometimes it's actually a little bit difficult to read sometimes because she's grown on me so that I don't like it when she's hurt or feeling down or anything. I mean sometimes I just want to be able to run over and give a warm hug of comfort.... Which is a bit weird and frustrating since I would A: be a complete really fuzzing weird stranger to her and B: she's not particularly keen on emotional displays C: Even less so publicly.
Generally speaking I do like hugging over people and I find it annoying that society seems to be against that level of affection for another person publicly.
If you catch this post I think you should check it out. I for one think it's quite interesting and keep up with it despite that I am terrible with journal like entries normally I do like the story and the characters. Well worth a read.
I just wanted to show the story itself and the character a bit of love. Lately I just have really desperately felt a desire to give her a hug actually.
Shameless self-promotion: Elana Devin!
Well, naturally!
How I feel about this character: She’s interesting, if not necessarliy always likeable. She’s kind of remote and distant and represents a more cosmic perspective to Lydia’s all to human one even though Lydia’s the titular goddess. Elana really comes to life in her interactions with her sister—they have this deeply close bond but at the same time get deeply exasperated with each other, and that rings true.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: In GC itself, no one, I guess. In terms of characters we write about in the wider LitImp-sphere… Jenny Everywhere, maybe? They’d have a nice order/chaos thing going on.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Lydia, as noted. Their relationship is what makes the story really sing.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Well GC doesn’t have enough readers for that yet I guess.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.: At some point Lydia’s gonna run into at least one varation of the Legion of Net.Heroes; Elana should deal with that too later on . I’d like to see what she’d make of them and their world. Probably wouldn’t like it much.
Really, the choice was clear. I needed to keep doing this, for the sake of my own sanity. To justify to myself why I could do these things, I needed to do them in a way that helped people.
Lydia Devin, Correspondence From the Goddess
Lydia. Shock, I know.
Well then!
1. Lydia is great. 75% of Goddess Correspondence is just her thoughts and her understanding of herself and the world, and something like that would be unbearable if she weren’t a great character. But she really is.
2. One of the interesting things about Lydia is the way she deals with pain, how she lashes out at the people she cares about sometimes because she actually does care about them deeply and is very conscious of her responsibilities and feels she can’t handle it. There’s been a discussion going around about why some parts of fandom seem to overlook or dismiss female characters, and one thing that’s often been said is how some fans aren’t drawn to female characters because the kind of character they’re interested in is more likely to be male. That reminds me of Lydia—the way she deals with pain and her fear of her power and what it can do is more common for male characters, and that makes her stand out. Actually, her never-ending battle with passive-aggressive guilt and the whole “lonely god” thing reminds me a lot of the Tenth Doctor in some ways.
3. The bits I enjoy the most with Lydia are probably her interactions with her sister. It rings very true—how her love and admiration and resentment for her are all bound together.
4. The ability to control all of reality might be nice. Wait, no, I’d probably handle it even worse than her. I’d say her forcefulness and ability to speak her mind.
5. No comment. She might be reading this.
6. The first time I started interacting with Lydia and Elana which feels like forever ago. I miss when people were actively sending them questions. I should go do that. (And I encourage all of you to as well.)
7. Gosh, I don’t know. We were having a discussion a while back about Lydia/Elana—whether her obsessive love/hate relationship with her sister would extend to lust, and how that would likely be the most common pairing if there was a GC fandom, since that’s the emotional dynamic the whole series was built around. (Just like the Winchester brothers and Wincest.) Boy, I really hope she doesn’t read this.
