Cyclops and Iceman vs a lynch mob

Marvel civilians are fucking crazy. A lynch mob is a very loaded symbol of oppression, its very name describing the many punishing the few or the individual. It breaks down as a workable metaphor when the (white) lynchees have superpowers in a world full of superpowers. These maniacs ignore the ineffectual sheriff and are determined to hang these two young men with superpowers. They're lucky Cyke and Bobby don't want to kill them and have power incontinence.

In fact, they were only able to get rope anywhere near them because they were stalling. They have guns in their hands too - but they're determined to partake in this very specific, not as easy as it looks, method of execution.

Chuck gets in touch mentally, urging the boys to break free and run. Most flee when Cyke fires optic blasts, as you'd expect, though one guy takes advantage of the distance to use his rifle. Snowballs in the face neutralize him and Scott takes out his buddy with some real Captain Kirk moves.

For some reason they STILL chase these two superhumans with martial arts skills despite being repeatedly outclassed. They have an unreliable sense of self preservation, generally scared of their abilities but wanting to kill them for having them. Fortunately Chuck solves bigotry again, though nobody learned anything. I assume he wiped the sheriff's memories too - so they receive no consequences for trying to kill two children.

Bobby's parents get similar treatment, forgetting their son is a mutant and consenting to his attending boarding school. They'll find out again, and are dicks about it until his father's death. I'm thinking maybe punishment for the attempted lynching might have been a good idea, but Xavier is very fond of turning the other cheek.
