Getting Your Shot: The Book
Introducing Nat Geo's Getting Your Shot, a new book featuring Your Shot assignments and your photos! The book includes hundreds of new how-to tips and insights from National Geographic photography experts. Inside you'll find 200 beautiful Your Shot photos, plus tips for shooting landscapes, wildlife, family portraits, black-and-white images, and much more...
“How, I asked myself, can I teach thousands of people with varied levels of expertise in photography about f-stops and lens choices? I decided to bypass technique and go straight to the heart: Together we dove into truth, frame design, emotional depth, and power. And I discovered that these photographers wanted not just to be seen, but also to be heard. As they shared their stories on the website, their intentions became clearer and the quality of their photographs improved...
It was confirmed that what is important about photography is passion and love. The tiny strangers on my computer screen inspired my passion for growing, for changing, for thinking, for seeing, and for creating a community of seers who can show others how they see the world...
Through this book, we hope you will be inspired to make the world your own, on your terms, in your very own shots.”
—Lynn Johnson, National Geographic Photographer

We had quite the week at our Headquarters! National Geographic magazine hosted their annual Photo Seminar and Your Shot participated with some fun events throughout the week. We had two nights of photo booths where some of the worlds greatest photographers had the lens turned on them!
On Saturday, we hosted our largest ever #yourshotmeetup to take advantage of all the great photographers that were in town. National Geographic photographers Lynn Johnson, Jim Richardson, Joanna Pinneo, Erika Larsen, David Guttenfelder and John Stanmeyer joined us for six different photo walks around downtown Washington, D.C. Following the walks, we all met back at headquarters for coffee and a Q&A panel with the photographers.
Last week was the essence of something David Guttenfelder told us to do to improve our photography during the Q&A, “Find a community. Find people who are as crazy as you are.”
Thank you for being a part of our fun and passionate community! We’ll see you at the next meet up!
See past meetups from San Francisco, Brooklyn, Chicago, Vancouver, Washington, D.C., and our Studio Lighting Workshop.
