I wanted to like this book so much. Everyone seems to love in on twitter, goodreads, amazon, etc. I’m left wondering if they read the same book I did. The paper thin plot jumps unexpectedly and is difficult to follow. There’s simply nothing to like here.
Genre/Category: Contemporary, RITA finalist (novella)
Major Trope: In love with her brother’s best friend
Is He An Ass? Yes. There’s a scene prior to the start of this book where Jamie pulls the heroine out of a sex club he frequents “because she doesn’t belong there”. In this story, he then sleeps with her to prevent her from going back. I thought that the plot would be they both go and have a good time (with each other) but no, the heroine is obviously too sweet and pure for that. Even if she needs a man that is more adventurous than missionary on Saturday night. (This is a plot point). Jamie is controlling and infantilizes Georgie over and over again. He is totally an ass.
Smut? Glowing, there’s more than one sex scene and they’re competent without any extra limbs or odd positions, but there’s no real spark. It’s not very exciting to read. For saying this is supposed to have the taboo feeling of boinking her teenage crush who’s her brother’s friend, Georgie is pretty not thrilled with the entire thing.
Other thoughts? For the life of me, I can’t figure out why anyone enjoys this story. There no attraction, inconsistent plot, and a controlling ass that Georgie should just toss out a window. On a side note, if you follow the amazon link above, you’ll see the book has a whole new cover since it’s a RITA finalist. It’s a sexy guy with glasses. Jamie doesn’t wear glasses. If I’m promised a hot dude in glasses, the story better follow through.
Final Grade? No, I can’t recommend this. If you read it and loved it...please let me know why.
