so i'm nonbinary as i don't identify as any gender and my parents still refer to me as a girl. how can i explain my gender to them? also, i want to get top surgery so that i can feel more like the gender i identify as. how can i explain this to my parents as well?

Try to explain to them that there are more than two genders. To do this, you could bring up the fact that there are a large number of cultures around the world with more than two genders, you could talk about the different countries around the world that are now legally recognizing nonbinary gender because there is evidence for it, yknow, things like that. Explain to them that you aren't male or female, and try to explain your gender, and that you'd like to present differently. Otherwise, be careful, and be patient. It can be a lot for some people to digest.- Ramona
