Ever since I've watched The Amnesiac, I keep thinking about the cake scene and what it says about Ma Dalton's parenting.

The one interpretation is that Ma's favoritism of Averell reached the level when she makes his favorite cake even on her other sons' birthdays.

Since we only see Joe's birthday flashback, the other interpretation is that she's doing it only on his birthday and he's her least favorite kid.

But my interpretation is as such:

Since Joe is the oldest and is supposed to be the leader of the gang, Ma openly favors Averell to make Joe angry and teach him that if he wants something, he has to fight for it. This feeling of unfairness is supposed to make him strong, and fierce, and determined as the guy who will lead his brothers.

But no matter how you look at it, it paints a very negative picture of Ma Dalton's parenting style.

I wish everyone who celebrates Christmas or not, a few relaxing days.

Whether with family or friends, alone at the sea or in a hut in the mountains…

Wherever you may be, just feel warmly greeted by me. 🐺 ~ After years, I commissioned a christmas picture again, even that I don't celebrate christmas itself, the characters in my stories do.

The picture should not only express Christmas alone, but also remind us to be grateful for what we have achieved in life and to also be grateful for all the support we got from friends and family in the darkest moments.

The Dalton brothers had a rough time the last few months. Shade got badly wounded and the wounds needed time to heal. This brought the Daltons and the wolf even closer together and Joe's stony heart shattered.

For Christmas, the Daltons rode out of the mountains to visit their beloved mother (and cat Kitty) to give her the most beautiful Christmas present. Their love for her.

How to annoy my mum:

Show her a picture of Ma Dalton from her comics and say “Haha look that’s you!”. For example: sneezing loudly, always having her special handbag with her, doting on her favourite cat and so on :)
