This is a story in which Kara and Lena keep giving each other chocolates instead of talking about their feelings.
It starts simply enough. Kara drops off a chocolate bar with Jess because she knows Lena’s in meetings and presentations all week and their two schedules don’t line up at all.
She leaves it with a post-it that reads “Thought your day could use something sweet! :) <3 Kara”
“And if she saves the post-it, that’s because it’ll be a reminder to repay the favor. Just a reminder.”
She does repay the favor with a very nice box of elegantly painted truffles.
The card reads, “Kara, thank you for the chocolates. I’m glad we’re friends. Sincerely, Lena.”
Kara, to Alex, under the blankets at sister night: They’re so pretty, I almost don’t wanna eat them.
Alex, around an entire piece of chocolate: I have no such qualms!
Kara, around an entire piece of chocolate: I said almost!
Kara and Lena trade surprise chocolates back and forth, and it becomes their little tradition. It becomes a little excessive, and Jess begins to grow tired of it.
Jess: Lena, if you send me back to the chocolatier, I swear to god... Just ask her out already.
Mandatorily, there is a scene in which Lena brushes some chocolate from Kara’s lips.
Lena: You’ve got a little left...
Their eyes flicker back and forth from one another’s, trying to read how much it would ruin their friendship if they leaned in for just one kiss.
In the end, they talk about how much they like getting and giving chocolate to each other, and how important it is to have someone to do that for. And how thoughtful and kind they think the other is. And how they feel like the other knows just what they like and when they need it most. They finally ditch the nauseating chocolate metaphors and kiss.
The kiss turns into talking late into the night, and the newfound knowledge that their pining is actually mutual feels like a flower blooming in each of their chests. The end.
