Shooting for gold, a dnf archery au I wrote after I went to an archery competition.

It was a fun exercise to draw proper archery form and was my first time drawing irl appearance Dream. Technical notes below cut.

George is drawn with proper archery form. He is at the very end of the follow through step of his shot cycle. If you look, his fingers are resting loosely on the grip and he's actually holding it with only his thumb and middle finger. The sling on his finger is the only thing keeping the bow from falling out of his hand.

Dream's form is okay, but not as good as George's. Probably because I'm not as familiar with compound bow form, also because George is a leaderboard archer and Dream is a hobbyist. He's right at the beginning of his shot cycle where he's still drawing the bow. His hand is gripping the bow a bit too tightly. He's drawn right in the middle of taking a step, normally his leg wouldn't be bent while shooting.

George has all the proper archery equipment and he's wearing a closefitting short sleeved shirt so that the bowstring won't catch on his clothes. He's also got a chest guard and arm guard for even more protection.

Dream is there for fun, so no arm guard. He does have a strap for his bow's release switch looped around his wrist. I wouldn't suggest shooting in flannel but I do it all the time as well.

I would say the recurve bow is drawn quite accurately, but the compound one absolutely isn't. I totally forgot to draw the sight haha.

George's bow design is based on a bow belonging to my friend who went to the competition with me

yes there is a pride flag sticker on the back of George's bow, it's a plot point I swear
