BALITANG REHIYONAL: VTuber 'Filian' mistakenly identifies Mabinay over San Carlos in GeoGuessr multiplayer duel

SAN CARLOS, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL -- A prominent American virtual YouTuber and online streamer known as Filian suddenly found herself online in this administrative Negros Island Region (NIR) during a multiplayer duel round of the browser-based geography game "GeoGuessr" on Wednesday (September 3rd, 2025 -- Pacific U.S. local time). Travel players as online observers must have to guess their country and city location, based on the Google Street View (GSV) imagery.

This happened with a fierce rivalry against French GeoGuessr player 'rom1trsn', with player observers beginning with 6,000 health points. The said geography game involved guessing a row of global destinations, and the winner had to be the most accurate. GeoGuessr puts players in a randomly chosen place on GSV, and the degree of closeness to the correct location.

GeoGuessr is a web-based geography game, where the player is plunged into selected Google Street View imagery anywhere around the world, and is required to guess the location based on visual references like signage, vehicles, plants and buildings and road signs. Playing as a virtual tourist and observer, players make their guesses on an interactive map and receive points for the position based on the proximity to the real place; multiplayer rounds often add competitive mechanics such as health, damage multipliers and round scoring.

Cartoon Network News and OneNETnews uncovers the location in the northeast of NIR during the duel. Filian encountered imagery containing the church entrance & parked motorcycle, where she tentatively tagged the scene in the municipality of Mabinay in the central region of Negros Oriental. At the end of Round 5, the game recorded the actual location as 'San Carlos, Negros Occidental'. Despite the misguess, Filian emerged victorious, finishing the round with 403 health points against 'rom1trsn', whose final guess was roughly 150 kilometers away from the target location.

As the world learns about Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental courtesy of the live-streamed GeoGuessr multiplayer duel, the question that intrigues is whether the American VTuber 'Filian' can be encouraged to plan a physical trip to the NIR to potentially promote local tourism through local government units (LGUs). Her historic stream win is definitely propelling the region to the Negrosanon map for her global audience.

BALITANG REHIYONAL: Tragic Accident in Mabinay town claims 15 lives, leaving 2 were injured

MABINAY, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- A vehicular cargo truck plunged off a cliff in Sitio Tubod along the National Highway in Brgy. Bulwang, Mabinay, Negros Oriental resulting in the loss of 15 lives, and leaving two individuals injured, rushing through a local hospital in the said municipal town last Wednesday afternoon (February 21st, 2024 -- Mabinay local time).

The male driver of the truck was identified as Mr. Antonio Boganotan Toreno, a widower and resident of La Libertad, this said province. While Ms. Jovanni Timtim Flores, also the legal age, married and a resident of the aforesaid municipal town and province. The vehicle involved in the accident was a classic Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter with the plate number GKC 455. The owner of a cargo truck is Rolindo Rusiana Decipolo Sr., who is 63 y/o, married and a local resident of the said municipal town and province.

Reports from exclusive local radio broadcasts during "11 MBPS" news and public affairs program (Mga Balita kag Public Service) in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental; and "El Castigador" in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; aired through regional FM radio stations of K5 News FM, shed light on the circumstances surrounding the accident. According to these reports, the truck was en route to Brgy. Dawis, National Highway, Bayawan, Negros Oriental; passing through Mabinay town, to participate in a flea market where livestock buyers, including Mr. Toreno himself, were expected to purchase pigs, cattle and other animals.

The cargo vehicle was carrying a total of 17 passengers, all livestock buyers, when it veered off the road, crashing through a weakened concrete barrier and plummeting below the cliff. Several victims lost their lives on the spot, while others sustained injuries and were promptly transported to the Mabinay MediCare Community Hospital (MMCH) for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that mechanical trouble with the vehicle may have contributed to the accident, causing Mr. Toreno to lose control as he overshot the cliff's edge in the killer bottom curve. The bodies of those who perished have been transferred to a local funeral parlor in La Libertad, Negros Oriental, where they will be released to their respective families in due course. Following after his recovery from a local hospital at MMCH, Mr. Toreno may potentially face reckless imprudence, in resulting to multiple homicide and serious physical injuries for the cargo truck driver.

Mabinay town is going through a tough time as they mourn the loss of their fellow residents in Negros Oriental. The entire region is currently affected by this sad event, and authorities are looking into what happened. The local governments of Mabinay and La Libertad are reaching out to the families of the victims and providing assistance to those impacted by the tragedy.

It is a sure wake up call of the significance of road safety and vehicle inspection, which can be later provided by the Land Transportation Office (LTO). The death of a cargo truck driver in this accident is also a stark reminder of the dangers that may arise when safety measures are not considered when traveling on the road. While the said region is mourning for the lives lost and praying for a speediest recovery of the injured except those who were all died, the questions about the road infrastructure adequacy in the killer curve, and stricter enforcement of maintenance standards of vehicles to prevent such tragedies like this in the future.

For now, the Negrosanon community is coming together in sorrow, giving comfort and sympathy to the families and friends of those impacted by this tragic accident.

BREAKING NEWS: Radio Commentator in Mabinay has now stabbed to death

MABINAY, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- A locally slain radio commentator of Power 102.1mhz: DYRY RFM in Mabinay has died the past weekend at the hospital on Sunday night (September 18th, 2022 at 6pm -- Mabinay local time).

One male victim named Rey Blanco or better known as 'DJ Blangko', who was a radio anchor and commentator of "Rakrakan sa Hapon" from Bais City the same province. While the suspect named Charles Yanoc Amada, a local farmer and a resident of Brgy. Himucdongon in this mentioned town of Negrosanon.

The investigation by the Mabinay police revealed that the victim went to the house of Wilbert Amada (who was a brother of the said suspect) and was suddenly appearing from behind without sufficient reason. The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) has yet to determine the exact motive of Blanco, but presumed it to be “work-related” after he was mad at the said victim for attacking his family through his local radio program. Charles has now stabbed the victim with a 10-inch bladed knife and it was half-sliced through his neck.

The victim was rushed through the Mabinay Community Hospital (MCH) but was declared dead on arrival per attending physician named Dr. Rochelle Kristine Bokingkito.

In a Facebook statement post of Power 102.1mhz: DYRY RFM said that the loss of a seasoned and caring commentator does not mean the end of his advocacy to defend the oppressed and abused people, especially the poor.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the responding Mabinaynon police and was now detained in custody at the Mabinay PNP Detention Cell.
