Idk if anyone here is a Mac whiz, but I've been having a lot of problems with scanning software that is getting in the way of my archival work. I made a post on Reddit, if you feel like you have any advice to offer I'd love you to take a look at it.

Text to Speech to MP3 on Mac
It strikes me that so many people I've spoken to don't know about the feature, but you can have a block of text that's dictated by Siri and then made into an MP3.
To do this put the text you want dictated into a word processor, I used textEdit, then highlight the whole text and scroll down to services, then click on Add to Music as a Spoken Track. Then there will be a small dialogue box where you select what voice you want and what to name it.
Then hopefully you should have an MP3. I use it for required reading, so I can listen to the chapters whilst doing other things, but you can really do it for any block of text. It is a computer voice, still, so if that's something you don't like, then maybe give this one a miss.
I don't know how to do this same thing on PC, so if anyone else knows, then please add on to this post.

i have a 2020 macbook air in case that is important, im not tech savvy at all when it comes to computers so i have no idea lmao.
i’ve had this message pop up that tells me that my computer is low on memory when i try to play the sims, which is odd bc i jus bought my laptop a few months ago and i know i haven’t run out of memory that quickly. and i looked up how to check and whatnot to make sure and it came back good, my memory and storage is good as far as i can see. so when i looked it up it said it’s like a virus or something that is connected to that search baron thing which i also have that comes up on my safari and it’s super annoying. forgive me for my layman speech i rlly have no clue what i’m doing
so i went ahead and started to try and research some antivirus programs and whatnot that are good but, again, i’m not very tech savvy and i don’t know what exactly to look for and how to know if i’m getting something that will fix the issue i’m having. pluuus i don’t want to get something that is rated highly just because the developers of it have paid off some people to review it and whatnot.
if you could help me out i’d really appreciate it!!! i rlly want to fix this issue i hate to know that i’ve already got a virus or something in the few months i’ve had it.
summary: i have the “search baron” issue on my mac and when i try to open the sims it tells me i “don’t have enough memory” which i know is not true (i think these two are tied to one another, but then again i’m not tech savvy). if you know how to fix this or have any antivirus programs that you highly recommend please let me know!
Mac Help
So before I spend more money I thought I’d reach out to all of you and ask if anyone has experience with the following.
My mother accidentally downloaded malware onto her MacBook Pro. It’s the Search Baron virus which is apparently common. I’ve downloaded a few apps to try and scrub it, as well as checked for it in Applications and Utilities. She’s clicked on so much bs that I don’t know what’s what when it comes to removing this virus.
Anyone had to deal with Search Baron virus? It’s Safari that she got it from. I think from a real estate ad or site. Total cluster fuck and the longer I work on it, the less time for my writing!
I’ve watched all the YT videos and read articles. Next step I guess is an Apple service call if that’s even possible right now.

hey random question for the computer-savvy of my followers: how come my file thumbnails do this?
some show up and some just don’t. I’ve tried googling a solution but the only “fix” i could find (go into Get Info, change the “Open with” dropdown to Preview.app) doesn’t work and I’m really annoyed because it’s seemingly completely random except for the fact that it happens to entire batches of icons that I worked on or saved around the same time, so the entire Q movie shows up but the entire T movie doesn’t.
anyone have ideas how to make the thumbnails show up?
Kinda a long shot, but does anyone have any experience with recovering documents from an emptied trash folder on a Mac? Really hoping that the wider Tumblr-sphere will have some experts out there.
