MAC SS15 Makeup Trends

The Mac SS15 Beauty Trends have emerged and this spring summer is full of inspiration to perk up your makeup routine. This is possibly my favourite season so far with glitter, big lashes, glossy eyelids and lots of shine! Here's the trend breakdown :

Re:View

Re: View is  essentially a liner and lashes trend. Terry Barber says "There is no middle ground to mascara now, the tendency is to pack on mascara against a super nude skin. Contemporary black is worn at its best agains bare often glossy eyelids." There is a subtle 70's influence to the trend. To get the look keep building up your mascara to get a very clumpy lash effect or alternatively cut up your normal strip lashes and re apply on the lash line for a stronger look. Play with liner by lining it very tight to your lash line for Twiggy inspired eyes or experiment with deconstructing your liner in a new way. Enlightened 

Enlightened is all about giving skin that gorgeous fresh glow. To get the look use techniques like applying luminosity around the orbital bone and on the eyelid. Don't shy away from highlighter or light reflective skin illuminators - accentuate skin highlights  as shown at Aquilano Rimondi :

Free Party 

Free Party is this summer's festival trend. "This is a beauty born of feeling the love and going off the grid", says Lucia Pica. The only rule to this trend is to keep your skin fresh and glowy. "Anything involving colour only looks modern when you take away the skin coverage" says Terry Barber. LuLu & Co showcase it best :

No Makeup 

No Makeup  The No Makeup Makeup Look is here to stay for a little longer - classic beauty with a modern twist. To get the look keep the skin clean, use minimal powder, have groomed brows, add sheer highlights and a little lip conditioner. Tom Pecheux says "with natural makeup every details has to be worked harder," so don't think this look is a roll out of bed and be ready sort of deal. Work your skincare to make the most of your natural beauty and add natural highlights and contours to the face with concealors and colour correcting pens. Keep it fresh as seen at Preen :

Mac A/W14 Trends

Just in time for LFW here is a breakdown of the A/W14 Beauty Trends set by Mac Cosmetics. Having dominated fashion week over the last few years Mac has taken over the backstage beauty.

Last season alone they worked on over 200+ shows so rest assured they know what they are talking about. This Autumn don't just settle for your typical easy everyday look. Try something new and be inspired by the looks of Fall 2014 : 

Off Colour 

“Subverts classic tones with a dirty edge to become the new neutrals. Polluted pink, unwholesome brown, bruised plum, dirty khaki, dull rust, dingy violet, dusty ochre, veined blue and myriad shades born of a sludgy organic nature – mud, moss, mushroom, algae, sap, grit…  A drab-inflected palette is being used in a beautifully paradoxical manner this season; grungy colour that creates the effect of luminosity and life in the face."

Soft & Pretty, Pressed in effects, Mushrooms Tones, 90s vibes

Off Colour Essentials : Trend Palettes mixed together to create murky tones,  Pearl Cream Colour Base, Posey Creamblend Blusher, Pure Flash! Electric Cool Eyeshadow

Streamlined 

“Eyes have a gestural quality that widens them. Eyes are indisputably the feature to focus on for the season ahead.  Framed with an architectural liner, these eyes add a strength to the face that sits somewhere between glamour and grunge (but, vitally, looks like neither of the two).  Tomboy and tough around the eyes were common descriptives of these lean, horizontally focused shapes.”

Disconnected Eyeliner, Eltectro Liner, Black Liner but bright colours in the waterline like orange. Mascara applied from the iris out and pinched with tweezers for a doe eye effect.

On Reflection 

“Explores how shine is the most crystalized direction of the season. Just as textural contrasts informed the fashion collections, reflective accents are a dominant refrain for AW14. Punctuations of shine against matte provide an endless repertoire of plays on light, from neutral metallics (predominantly gold, with forays in copper, pewter and silver) through to literal gloss.  Whether it’s a burnished accent or a shine reflective, make-up inherently has a very literal ‘lightness’ to it which projects the features, rather than recedes them.”

Matte, Shiny, Shimmer, Gold, Metallic finishes as if “jewelry is embellished on the face”

That's a wrap for Indulge!

But that doesnt mean you no longer have the chance to view and test the products available in this collection. :)

With 5 days for the launch of the collection, MAC Makati also re-promotes the store as its flagship with an event as big as the store itself.

In the last two days, I got the chance to do a workshop for the members of the United Makeup Artists of the Philippines, students of SoFA (School of Fashion and the Arts), and CAS (Center for Aesthetic Studies). The workshop was not exclusive to the members, but everyone who was interested in listening were requested to stay. And may I say, a lot of them did which made the workshop a success.

So on the first day, I worked with Joanna, a European model who had gorgeous skin so I wanted to showcase that in the look i had in mind. I had to do a day look for the first set of the workshop. Going with the current AW 2013 trend, I went with a bold red lip and a very neutral eye using products from the collection.

On the second set of the workshop, I had to transform her day look into something she can wear at night. So using the darker colors of the eye shadows featured in the collection, I then paired the look by toning down the lip color with the nude lipglass. Everyone seemed to have learned the easy way of doing their makeup after the workshop since I have been approached by several people telling me so.

This is me and Joanna after the workshop (pardon the stressed look on my face). I was so happy with how great her skin looks without using too much coverage. Correcting imperfections and flaws using skin care definitely helps a lot prior to starting your makeup.

For the second day, I had my very good friend Yuki help me out for the demo.

The workshop was about good skin so I did a demo for an hour and half explaining in detail how to achieve such look. I wanted to show everyone that good skin is attainable especially if you invest in products that is perfect for your skin type.

Yuki, on the left had so much compliments with how great her skin looks. I had the freedom to do any look on her after prepping her skin, so I decided to maximize the chance of showcasing all collections that we had this September.

Au-Currant was my chosen trend. To achieve this, I used products from the Prolongwear Collection, Antonio Lopez, Illustrated, Retro Matte, and Indulge. Whew! It may seem like a lot of products, but I used very little of each to achieve maximum impact.

I think to sum up the whole 2 days of the workshop I did can be justified by the faces on these people. My biggest thanks to everyone who participated and made this event a success.

Fall Winter 2013 Makeup Trends

So here are the A/W13 Makeup Trends presented by Mac Cosmetics. My favourite is Perspex-tive as I'm all about glossy skin that looks fresh and highlights the natural glow on a beautiful base. But with a/w it's also time to dig out the crimson lipsticks and smokey eye khols! Goodbye spring summer 2013! Hello fall! 

Re-belle 

"Reb-elle owns the season’s tougher approach to make up and redefines the smokey eye, smudging black with charcoal and even merging it with emerald, burgundy and midnight blue tones. It’s artistic and anarchistic, punchy rather than pretty. The one rule – nothing is perfect."

Spiritual-Eyes

"Spiritual Eyes is an altogether more haunting look, eyes are shadowed in grey and skin is porcelain. Think ice maiden."

Au Currant

"Au-Currant is maybe one of the boldest trends, it’s high fashion gothic with glossy dark purple and oxblood lips against pale complexions, or bright crimson lips with lightly stained eyes. Holly Fulton channeled this look for her AW13 show and went one step further – giving all models a gap between their teeth and lining lips several shades darker than the lipstick used."

  Perspex-tive 

Finally Perspex-Tive is all about high shine. Clear lipgloss is used on lids instead of lips and skin is creamy with an incandescent sheen. And it’s all about the brows too – influenced by two words – Cara Delevingne.
