I don't know anything about sorcery! but its on sale so I'm gonna go buy it now
HELL YEAH!!!!!
it's the most game of all time. it's a Choose Your Own Adventure text-based RPG - but it has very good sound design, it breaks up the text into chunks so it's more accessible, it has an animated map, animated fight sequences, mini games, and other things to help it feel LESS like a text game. you play as a sorcerer (hence the name) going on a long journey to retrieve a magical crown that was stolen by an evil archmage
you go through a bunch of cities and wilderness and meet a TON of interesting characters and EVERYONE and EVERYTHING is trying to kill you and you meet an assassin and he's your rival but you're also canonically in love with each other and depending on your choices you can become lovers - regardless of the player character's gender
the game mechanics are challenging and fun and there's TIME TRAVEL and you can TALK TO ANIMALS and you can choose to be REALLY EVIL or do your best to be a pacifist. you can completely mess up and get stuck in an area, unable to continue, and have to rewind back REALLY far. the game can be VERY cruel to you sometimes - you can fall in water and loose all of your food. you can blunt your sword and lose attack power.
it's legitimately challenging and fun and the game actively encourages creative thinking and choices. in a swamp? you can try floating, or try becoming a GIANT so you don't get stuck in mud. once i was attacked by a flock of evil birds and instead of fighting them, i cast two spells. one to talk to them, and one to control them. then i ordered them to carry me across the map. no birds were harmed and i got to where i needed to go MUCH faster.
the 3rd chapter of the game features TELEPORTATION and magical beacons that you can use to go between the past and present - it's WILD.
that's the one i'm on right now. there's 4 chapters in total. they were released as separate games, but you carry your save data over. there's Sorcery! 1 & 2 (one game) and then Sorcery! 3 and then Sorcery! 4
highly, highly recommend this game to anyone that likes RPGs. it very much feels like a one-player DND session. you can even use spells like SUS to sense danger, ask questions
i actually got introduced to this game because Jerma played it??? he played it over several streams (60 hours worth of footage) and someone pared it down to 10 hours. I let it play in the background while I was playing Animal Crossing, actually, and I realized I was so into the game and the story that I wanted to play it myself
