Kinbane Castle (b.1547) is a reminder of Northern Ireland's turbulent history when the Scottish MacDonnell clan ruled the Glens of Antrim.
Along the magical coastline of County Antrim in Northern Ireland, Colla MacDonnell of the great Scottish MacDonnell clan built Kinbane Castle in 1547. Also known as Kenbane, the castle now lies in ruins on a rocky peninsula that juts out into the sea. The word Kinbane derives from an Irish word, An Cionn Bán, meaning White Head. This term refers to the white limestone under the structure. Although this castle is not as famous as many others in the area, it is still an important reminder of Northern Ireland’s turbulent history: a time when the MacDonnell clan reigned Antrim.

Had the pleasure of stumbling in upon @makaratattooshop today and checking out the vibe of this spot. Part tattoo shop, part museum, part classroom. @mattowentattooer is an incredible artist filled with passion for the history of the art of tattooing and knowledgeable about the symbolism that goes into each piece. The lovely shop owner @miss_sugarskull runs things behind the scenes and is adorned as well. They were so friendly and welcoming (and even their pint sized security dog Chance the minpin gave me the ok), if/when I’m ready for that full back piece, this is definitely where I’ll go. Off the beaten path just behind the A&W at the bus stop on #Macdonnell in #Parkdale, this spot is amazing. If you can’t decide what to get, just ask Matt to pull out the dice and you can let them decide. (at Parkdale, Toronto) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByLeQmCAmps/?igshid=l2go9a4jt13i

MacDonnell Ranges, Australia - Glen Helen Gorge by David Min Via Flickr: The West MacDonnell Ranges part briefly at Glen Helen Gorge, to make way for the Finke River. The ranges are of pacoota sandstone and form steep, broken ridges and it is here that the permanent Finke River waterhole is an important refuge in the hot summer months. It provides shelter for all nine species of fish recorded for the Finke and is an important stopover for waterbirds migrating along its course. The Finke River continues and makes its way to the Simpson Desert. Glen Helen Gorge is a great place to view the ranges and nearby Glen Helen Resort offers accommodation and meals.
