Hi. I've always wondered how is it that Macedonians and Slovenians understand us Serbs/Croats/Bosnians perfectly but we don't understand you guys like that?
uhhh you’d be better off asking an actual linguist about this but i’ll give it a shot i can only speak for macedonians tho since not even i can understand slovene lmao
well, macedonian and bulgarian are the only languages that resemble the Old Slavonic language the closest, hence there are lot of similarities in the grammar and vocabulary between these two languages that don’t exist in the bosnian/serbian/croatian/montenegrin languages (i’ll be using the abbreviation BSCM from now on)
this is a result from simple language evolution based on territory, but also from years of occupation and the enforcement of the neighboring languages on the macedonian people at a time when we weren’t considered a nation or had our own language recognised. this is noticeable in the dialects people speak in certain areas of the country (on the south you’ll hear a lot of colloquial greek words used, on the east people use a lot of bulgarian words, and the grammar of the northern dialects is very much influenced by serbian)
the HUGE thing that differentiates macedonian from any other slavic language tho is that we don’t use clauses (also known as padezhi/падежи). on one hand it makes the grammar infinitely easier for us, but comprehension difficult for others. couple that with understandably different vocabulary (due to geographical location) and you get the idea why you can’t understand us so clearly
as for why we can understand BSCM, the explanation is simple, everyone in yugoslavia studied/spoke serbo-croatian and as for the younger generations, with the widespread turbo-folk songs it’s easy to pick any of these languages up

so lili (metamorpher) complained about not knowing enough macedonian swears and i, the ever benevolent blogger, decided to compile a list to help her broaden her inappropriate vocabulary!
disclaimer: considering swears are part of colloquial language, they might not be grammatically correct and also some of them might be influenced by dialects soo...
without further ado, here is it:
pushi kur/ac (cyrl. пуши кур/ац) - literal translation: smoke a dick. however, you can’t really smoke a dick so suck a dick is more accurate
variations: - pushi mi go (cyrl. пуши ми го) - with leaving out the dick part bc it’s pretty obvious what you’re sucking FUN FACT: in russian, the verb “to smoke” is курить which i think it doesn’t have any connection to the swear but it does provide for a good joke material and useless linguistic facts.
da/kje ti ebam krvta (cyrl. да/ќе ти ебам крвта) - transl: i will fuck your blood meaning “i will fuck your whole family/everyone you share blood with”, it’s really brutal imo but very widely used
da/kje ti ebam familijata (cyrl. да/ќе ти ебам фамилијата) - transl: i will fuck your family, usually used interchangeably with the previous one
da/kje ti ebam majkata/sestrata (cyrl. да/ќе ти ебам мајката/сестрата) - transl: i will fuck your mother/sister, sexual intercourse with female relatives is very prominent in slavic curses (sense my irony)
variations: mamicata da ti ja ebam (cyrl. мамицата да ти ја ебам) ebi si majka (cyrl. еби си мајка) -transl: fuck your own mother
da/kje ti ebam sé/sve (cyrl. да/ќе ти ебам сé/све) - transl: i will fuck your everything, pretty self-explanatory (sé and sve are two variations of the same word but both mean everything, the first one is just the standardized cersion)
ebi se (cyrl. еби се) - transl: fuck off, pretty tame if you ask me
me boli kurot/kurac (cyrl. ме боли курот/курац) - literal transl: my dick hurts, but more appropriate would be i don’t give a fuck
me boli pichka (cyrl. ме боли пичка) - literal transl: my vagina hurts, but the semantics are the same as the previous one
sé/sve u kurac! (cyrl. сé/све у курац!) - literal transl: everything in a dick! however, this is downright hilarious so to hell with everything! would be more appropriate (also heard as just u kur/ac (у кур/ац) w/ the same meaning)
pichka ti majchina! (cyrl. пичка ти мајчина!) - literal transl: your mother’s vagina! but that doesn’t make a lot of sense so the actual translation would be something along the lines of fuck you (i rly can’t think of an english equivalent to this one you guys are not that creative)
variations: pizda ti materina! (cyrl. пизда ти материна!) - the translation is the same as with the previous one except this one is most likely influenced by the romanian curse “pizda mati” (which is one of the few words in romanian i know (ofc)) ok so i was informed that both “pizda” and “mati/mater” are actually proto-slavic words that evolved during time so kindly disregard my ignorance about etymology (but hey at least now you know a curse in romanian!)
u pichku mater! (cyrl. у пичку матер!) - literal transl: in your mother’s vagina! this one is usually used when you’re cursing an object or a particular event/occurence. it’s not really used towards people or animals just as an exclamation of anger. common abbreviation is: u pm (у пм)
now for the more complex ones: da i go turam na majka ti u sred pichka (cyrl. да и’ го турам на мајка ти у сред пичка) - transl: i’m going to put it (dick) in the middle of your mother’s vagina
da ti ebam kjelavata glava (cyrl. да ти ебам ќелавата глава) - transl: fuck your bald head, this is usually used at individuals who don’t have hair on their head but can be substituted with any offensive adj. + noun combo
da ti ebam se’ shto ti nosi shtikli po dvor/po doma (cyrl. да ти ебам се’ што ти носи штикли по двор/по дома) - transl: i’m going to fuck everything that wears high heels around your yard/home, yes that is an actual swear that i have heard real actual people use, it’s fairly uncommon but very creative (altho i believe the intended meaning is a bit lost bc ~~gender roles~~ but u kno)
i’m gonna have to finish here bc the list became a bit too long but bear in mind this is not a full list of the swears by all means, if you have a question about the pronunciation just message me!
