Macheen, 2633 East Cesar E Chavez Avenue, Los Angeles (Boyle Heights), CA 90033
Macheen is a pop-up located inside Milpa Grill. They’re known for tacos and breakfast burritos. The sign says they were voted best taco in LA. The menu includes breakfast burritos, breakfast tacos with soft scrambled eggs, tacos, enchiladas, salad, soup, elote, and drinks. Protein choices for breakfast: Birria, crispy pork belly, macha brussels sprouts, fried chicken, longaniza/pork sausage, mushroom al pastor, and brisket. They make their own flour tortillas.
Breakfast burrito with crispy pork belly, soft scrambled eggs, tater tots, chipotle aioli, and Swiss queso ($10): Since they braise the pork belly and make their own tortillas, it’s an upgrade from your typical breakfast burrito. The tortilla had been warmed on the grill. The eggs were tender. However, the pork belly was too salty, stringy, and not tender or crispy.
Jamaica with lime: Housemade, less sweet than usual
The café is small and has limited outdoor/sidewalk seating. The food was ready quickly. Place your order and pay. They’ll bring your food to you when it’s ready.
