First Kiss // macheresin

written for the @topgundrabble challenge prompt 'first kiss'

Their first kiss technically happened in first grade. It wasn't a big deal. Jake had seen Javy's mama kiss him every day when she picked him up from school, so Jake just... copied that when Javy scored a goal in their first ever soccer game.

Their first real kisses happened with different people in their early teens, though they compared notes after.

Their first proper, intentional, stone-cold sober kiss happened much later. Jake held Javy's face between his palms, just like he'd done excitedly at age seven, this time with the hope that it would be the last first kiss.

Prompt 4: Beach

It was a good day.

The team was coming together, overcoming egos and feuds—even Rooster and Hangman.

Javy stared across fire-painted waves, ignoring the noise from the bar behind him. He just couldn’t shake the feeling there was something different about this training detachment.

It didn’t take long for Jake to find him. Still oiled up and shirtless, Javy was glad the growing dusk hid the burn of his flushed cheeks.

He would never get used to Jake’s beauty.

“Hey,” the word was soft, tender in a way Jake spoke only to him, “got you a beer.”

Standing close—but not too close—they watched the sunset and hoped they would both come out of this alive.
