What makes you ship charlie and frank? No judgement, I'm just curious, because in the show its always implied to be more of a father son relationship so I'm wondering like whats appealing. I especially want to know because you're one of the only people I've seen ship them, its so niche.
i'm actually pretty new to shipping charfrank and only became interested in it during the golden bachelor arc last season, but i will try to speak on my feelings lol
first, real talk: i think a large part of the reason it's so unpopular is because it's not "hot" enough. if frank was played by a more conventionally attractive actor, i really do think more people would be on this shit, sorry 💅
second, i kind of don't agree that it's always portrayed as a father/son relationship. like for sure, charlie thought frank might be his dad at one point, and there are some daddy issues at play. but i think for the last few seasons at least, their relationship has been way more spousal than father/son. they've literally been married before. they've had group sex together more than once (wasn't there a joke also about frank being sexual with the charlie mannequin when mac and charlie fake their deaths?). and this last season especially, charlie's reaction to frank wanting to marry a woman and leave him felt way more like a jilted partner than a son, to me at least. i think the father/son thing was always a semi-flimsy explanation for the closeness of their relationship used by the show and by frank and charlie themselves, when convenient.
they're both weirdos with traumatic childhoods who finally found someone that truly gets them and likes them for who they are. frank is pretty homophobic and has a lot of sex with women he doesn't feel much for -- charlie is the longest, happiest partnership of his life. charlie has never had a real romantic relationship and gets confused about boundaries and what his feelings for people mean. i like ships with interesting dynamics to explore, and charfrank just fits the bill.
that said, i can only speak for myself -- i'm sure other people ship them for different reasons!
