Thus far, the day had gone as planned. The team was sitting around the Task Force room, trying to work despite not having much to go on anymore. L was, at this point, just pretending to stare at the screen. He was too busy thinking to really want to work on the case:
Why am I trying to stop him? He's cutting down on criminals. He's making my job easier. I should just let it go... but none of the others would do that, would they? No, I am on my own if I leave the investigation. The rest would stay, and find nothing of value.
Kira... If only I could prove it were you. If only you'd admit...
Because I don't think I'd even turn you in. I'd keep you and pick your brain instead.
The detective was starring at Light Yagami, but he hadn't noticed his own looking until the other seemed to get suspicious. Light had said something, but what had it been? Blinking, he muttered, "What did you say, Light?"
