And I won't hold you back Let your anger rise And we'llfly And we'll fall And we'll burn No one will recall
This is the last time I'll abandon you And this is the last time I'll forget you
I wish I could
I don't have a problem with people shipping JokerxHarley or pointing out the abuse in HarleyxIvy, but I can't help get annoyed when certain fans say that Ivy doesn't care about Harley while the Joker does.
I agree with you. I mean, I’ll be the first to say that both relationships are (or at least should be) unhealthy just based on the members that comprise them. However, while I say that Ivy has been abusive to Harley and would be if portrayed correctly, I admit that she does care about her (more than the Joker at least). And while I defend the idea that Harley really can’t be Harley without the Joker in her life (even just incidentally), I’m not gonna pretend that he’s anything other than a narcissistic psychopath just to make the idea of their relationship more palatable.
As much as I hate the oversimplifications of “Joker is abusive and Ivy cares about Harley,” I also hate the inverse simplification of “Ivy is abusive and hates Harley so she should be with Joker.” It’s something I’ve explained several times on my blog. (It’s basically one of my signature rants.)
Sorry if you've already discussed this, and I know it's a pretty sensitive topic, but would you say Harley enjoys being abused by the Joker (and Ivy, for that matter)?
I don’t think it’s the abuse so much as the power dynamic. Both the Joker and Ivy (when she’s portrayed correctly) are very assertive over her and are very controlling to different extents respectively. From what it seems, Harley does enjoy being submissive to them. However, the abuse is just an unfortunate part of the relationships that she has to deal with if she wants to be with them. (And that’s why I believe she’d be better off, in the long run, leaving both of them behind.)
I think this post here explains it better than I can.
How do you think the Joker would react to Harley's death?
Well, if he didn’t cause it, I don’t think he’d be particularly torn up about it. I mean, he’d miss her from time to time, but it’s not necessarily something that will bring him down at all. He’s a sociopath. Emotional attachments are at a minimum. And while Harley is the closest thing he has to that, he still doesn’t care enough. Like I said, he might even be the one who causes it.
It’s not like he’d be completely apathetic. He’d take notice and might even feel a little strange without her. But he’d get over it pretty quickly.
Ya heard Margot's quote about JxHQ? I look forward to Tumblr's reaction to it, lmao.
"I’m personally a sucker for a love story. In any iteration. I think people enjoy seeing two characters who, in Harley and Joker’s case, would die for one another. It’s kind of romantic in a messed up way.”
What now, Tumblr?
